OMG! That was epic!

So, I was doing the quest for Boone last night (attempt 2 since I had been killed by Deathclaws the first time). (modded with Unlimited Companions) So, my gang and I consisting of Boone, Veronica, Arcade, Rex and ED-E are cautiously making our way up the road to Bittersprings on either side of the road are a lot of Deathclaws (playing on hardcoe) and we're trying to avoid drawing their attention. An DC's that got too close to the road were quickly cut down, the firs one, a Young Deathclaw was killed by Rex, a second one was an advlt by Boone and Arcade with me dealing the final headshot. The third, and most amazing was Veronica switching from the Thermal Lance back to her powerfist and charging a DC before anyone could react and punching it in the face killing it instantly.

But wait, it gets better. We get to Bittersprings and I leave Rex and ED-E at the main pass into the camp. I then left Veronica and Arcade at the cemetery pass as Boone and I headed over to where he was stationed during the massacre. We spent the night and watched as the large Legion Raiding Party passed us by. Boone and I sat there and waited till the gunfire erupted. We left the cliff and headed up towards Rex and ED-E first bringing up the rear, Boone using his Sniper Rifle and I using the Assault Carbine and some steady made short work of the Legion.

On the other side of the pass at the cemetery we could still here gun fire as Veronica and Arcade took down the rest of the Legion Raiding Party. By the time Boone and I had arrived there were two Primes left, one was fleeing up the mountain to which he was met with gun fire from my carbine blowing his legs off and Boone took out the last Prime beating Arcade with a Machette.

Our casualties? Rex was killed by 4 Mongrels.

Up until this point in the game I have had absolutely no enemies as I saw no reason to go looking for trouble. I am currently level 10 (I think) and so far the only people who I have killed have only been killed because I was hired to do so. I avoid combat wherever I can and only shoot animals I plan on eating. To give you an idea, I've collected nearly 6k 5.56 rounds and 6k 5mm rounds.

All of my companions have been set to Passive and are kept there. They also do not go looking for trouble unless trouble finds me.

My play style has up until this point been Merc/Sniper.

We stopped off at Bitter Springs to help Boone get over what he had done. The Legion has just declared war on my band of merry men and women. I will now bring the fight to them. We have now turned into a Legion hunting party. (I know it was a scripted event) but, if the Legion had stayed away from Bitter Springs they would not have a problem with the Courier and his friends.

That however, is not to say I have not killed Legion members. I did. But passively. The one time I wiped out a camp was at the Cove and I used the truck on the mountain filled with radioactive barrels to kill them all. And the few other times I've let Boone do the shooting while I stood back and watch. But this was different. They were after Boone and the refugees. They were attacking an understaffed and under supplied NCR outpost. This to me felt wrong. So I helped in the fight and am now an enemy of the Legion. Plus, they killed my dog.

Anyway, the battle to me was pretty epic. Mainly because we were vastly out numbered but held our own. Plus the conversation with Boone after the fight kind of made me feel like a badass.

Those Moments happen alot in Fallout , the OMFG that was amazing !!! type moments I had mine just the other day I was at 188 TP
testing out my sniper class ( I killed everyone without losing any fame or turning anyone hostile) and there was this guy smoking at the bottom of a hill And I took the shot with my Ratslayer And he must have been about 250m away , Anyway I took the shot and he was that far away it took about 2 secs for it to hit and his head went in every direction and he fell to his knees . You had to see it to believe it .

Ranger Milo told me trying to save the soldiers was suicide. "Too many of them," he said "you'll get swamped..."

Got up on a ridge, and one by one shot down every one of the Legion recruits there, before sneaking into the barracks and taking out the rest of them. Dead Sea was the last; I shortened his name to Dead. Then I went out to the crosses and set those soldiers free.

And that's the story of how a Ranger, one of the NCR's Elite, was shown up by a messenger boy with a varmint rifle.

I wish I could play the game for the very first time again. :/

...so many great combat or story/quest moments. (edit) Even with mods it's not the same later, knowing everything/all the ambush spots...but I do still have some fun combats because of the companions themselves.

I did it just the same way. Main problem was keeping Boone from shooting his LOUD rifle.

Boone's quest for me personally trumps everything in F3 so far. :ninja:

I also liked Mr. New Vegas comment on this event.

From wiki:
After completion of the quest, Mr. New Vegas will report the incident on Radio New Vegas. He mentions that two civilians repelled an entire Legion raiding force, and in an interview, a civilian witness said that "God sent us two angels, and at least one o' them had a .308 caliber flaming sword of justice with a telescopic sight".

I don't listen to the radio, but I just might to hear them talk about the fight at Bitter Springs.
