I guess they couldn't code a poker system into the game?? Even though Rockstar did it with EZ in RDR... oh well...

Games like roulette, black jack and slots are all randomly generated outcomes. Poker would have randomly generated cards but it would need some sort of AI in order to determine a players bluff, call etc...

Which is really stupid because it's heavily based on your LUCK.... i find no pleasure in gambling in this game. If i wanna mini gamble, i play red dead and own up poker... if i lose and get made... it's time for a duel baby!

Actually.. this is false in the New Vegas world. It's sort of rigged towards your "LUCK" status... higher luck the better the cards... lower luck the worse the cards. It works in a percentage feature which i guess you can say is random gen but i see it as being rigged. Plus they could of just added a "random" call bluff code.. like the AI flips the coin to call the bluff or not to call... duh!

I'm not a huge fan of poker myself, so this didn't really bother me too much, however if there was some 5 card draw, I would have definitely played though.

Also, I thought it was kind of weird that there aren't any slot machines at the Luxe. (or are there and I'm just not seeing them?)

RDR did it somehow. I remember playing some games for hours.

I doubt someone could make a mod for it, so i'm gonna hope for DLC...

OH.. you also have to remember. If you've ever played AI poker online or full tilt poker... it's all based on math (Also based on math in real life if your a genius math wiz). It's calculated depending your hand and whats on the table and it works into %. They could of rigged it so all the AI's your playing against would know each others hands and calculate the percentage of them winning... so lets say they have a 70% chance of winning, then bluff calls. It's not that hard really.....

it would be very hard to make poker, and someone may come out with a mod that has one, doubtefull, but poker is way to complicated, games of chance are much easier to make

Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption? Flash Based Poker Games Online? I guess Bethesda and Obsidian is inferior to Rockstar and board tech major's making flashed based poker games.

ok that looks cool, but sadly this is talking about 2 different types of games, Fallout they want as much, not really a good word for it but compatibility/content. Wheras red dead redemption focuses more on graphics and how good stuff looks. So mainly the player has a lot more freedom in Fallout and its hard to combine that with things as complicated as poker, it has to be limited to make it actually look good. The games of chance are simple, so its not that hard. And just bc one game is lacking content that another has doesn't mean its inferior. Bethesda games are about the only ones that have mods, so with that logic all other games that don't have it are inferior.

We have caravan. That's a nice, skill based game, in my opinion.

oh yeh I did forget about that also fallout is supposed to be based on things that are close to real, but not really, so it kinda makes sense that there was no poker

I feel the lack of poker is appropriate. In the 50's casinos were swanky places for rich high rollers. The kind of people who wouldn't play a menial game like poker. If you want poker, go to Atlantic City, with the other low-class thugs.

Poker has been popular, but its only recently become a fad. It has little place in a world based on the vision of 50's Americana.

It would be if:

AI could play face cards on your stacks
Each player could only use one deck of cards (that is you can't build a deck of nothing but 10s, Kings, and Sixes form various decks)
You were not allowed to discard forever at the start to et up your perfect hand
