Legionair Assassins

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 12:22 pm

So far this game has been pretty nice to me, I enjoyed the atomsphere and the story and killed all the legionairs I met. So I'm level 7 now and killed about 10 legionair recruits and they really hate me now. Well apparently that is something I wasn't supposed to do. Legionair assassins constantly spawn by me and [censored] me. I've tried fighting them off, many times and failed. They seem to resist all explosive damage, I've tried fighting them off with the cowboy repeater (since all of my guns fail now ), but when there are 8 of them shooting at you, its pretty hard. The closest I've come to beating them is when I killed 3 of them and ran out of all stimpacks and aids. I've also ran away to an NCR outpost for help, but they all got [censored] just as fast as I did. So my question is, how was something as ground breaking as this was missed? Its completely ruined the game for me, because I cant get into novac and do half the quests they spawn by. Could they atleast balance it out with your skill level? Instead of making them so uber?

The problem is that they're bullet sponge's plain and simple no matter what their health is set too high, just do as I did turn the difficulty down save then reload when facing them.

No, the problem is you just messed with an army as an individual. At higher levels the hit squads are pathetic, but at low levels don't piss off the factions.

So I'm not supposed to pick sides till I'm a certain level, that doesn't ruin the sandbox feel at all. Its also nice to learn that they aren't a challenge in the future, what ever happened to levelling enemies? Or does making them a challenge for all levels not make any sense? It also breaks the immersion, "some guy killed 5 of our recruits, lets send 8 highly trained assassins after him now".

Picking fights early in the game with anything that is stronger than you is overall just a bad move, that's like complaining that a Deathclaw killed you. Sandbox is more like you don't have a main story to follow if you don't want to, you can walk anywhere and do anything, which you can, but there are consequences for your actions. The game does not scale to your level anymore, the legion assassins are beasts and the NCR ranger squads usually just have more troops to them. and how does that break immersion... you openly killed 5 legion members, do you expect them not to retaliate? as said, you probably want them to send "weaker assassins" but the game is set up so when you piss them off at any level 1-30 they will still not be a "pushover" unless you know what you're doing.

2 words... Legendary Deathclaw

-and you think the legion is bad.

EDIT: you can do quests for the NCR which will not lower your legion reputation, but try to find a way to complete them without killing legion members.

You can pick sides early on but [censored] with an ARMY at lvl 7 doesn't make sense at all... this does not ruin the sandbox feel since it's common sense not to mess with an army when your so tiny and weak. IMO.. you f'ed up and now your gonna pay!!!

Just switch difficulty to very easy and once u get higher lvl crank that bad boy up back to very hard. Peace

I saw like 10 legionairs get [censored] by a caravan and their guards, I doubt they sent assassins after them. But I'll just have to drop the difficulty when I meet them from now on.
Also you can atleast out runs deathclaw if your smart about it. These guys will chase you forever.

Get your rep high enough with the NCR and some random ranger shows up and thanks you and gives you your own personal bat signal to call in your own Ranger death squad. Fight fire with fire.

I did the same mistake as the first guy, getting an legionaire assasin squad after me after pissing off the Legion. When I tried using the signal I just got the message: "You're out of NCR territory". This was just outside Novac

lol the first time I had the assassins after me I was like lvl 8 and lucky enough to be by a caravan that soaked up a lot of bullets.

My second character was a melee char and at lvl 12 I got attacked, I got juiced up on all the drugs I had, Buffout, Med-x, Psycho, whiskey. I charged in with my [censored] strength and critically hit and chopped off the first dudes head with my bumper sword then sent the second one flying with the smashy perk. It's so glorious chopping off heads with a giant sword.

I can't remember the name of the place that I was when they spawned, but there were fire ants in a valley, and then an NCR camp at a powerstation.

Well, I ran through the Valley and the Legion Assassins were mostly taken out by the Fire Ants, but then some of them got to the NCR camp, where the NCR took care of them...

BUT THEN...even more Fire Ants turned up, and I found myself fighting alongside 7 or 8 NCR troops, it was amazing :)

Here is how I beat my first Legion Hit Squad at level 5 or 6 or so.

I was doing the Booted quest, sniped the two bad guys at the camp. Immediately, two legion asassins spawned and started running towards me. I'd just picked up some legionarre armor, equipped it, and they were immediately non-hostile and one watched while I blew the other's head off without attacking.

Was frigging hillarious.

You have to be strong if you're fighting a large force that uses guns when you're lightly armored and just have a pointy stick. :hubbahubba:

I had an epic battle with some assassins just outside Novac too :flamethrower:
Took about 10 minutes but after a few retry's I managed to seperate the group and pick them off one by one. Loads of fun though  AND THE LOOT!!!!!

I did the same thing, tried doing the "Booted" quest at about level 3 or 4. Took the first lot of guys out without to many issues. Slept in one of the beds at the camp for an hour to regen health and then woke up to a bunch of legion guys blasting the hell out of me. Main thing to remember is to save often as a mistake in this game can haunt you for a long time. I reloaded a save just before I attacked them then went back to do it a few levels later (with a companion) and it was easy.

They're called 'consequences' and they don't happen in sandbox games enough. For everything to stand still until you're ready is so gamey, this sort of behaviour creates makes for some great stories from people.

This is why I've remained neutral thus far. Plus in the end I plan on destroying all the major factions. :chaos:

Interesting. I killed quite a few members of the Legion in my game and never saw any Assassins. Perhaps they only appear under certain conditions (such as attacking one faction without the favor of the opposing faction).

They only have 225 health compared to the 250 health the ncr rangers have.

I had a similar experience: I messed with the Legion @ Nipton and Assassins spawned around the Powder Ganger camp outside Goodsprings. I was level 7. After several attempts to throw everything I had at them (ineffectual) I realized that the NCR wasn't far away, at Primm. Two Legion Assassins mowed down 3-4 NCR soldiers with barely a scratch. This led me to a similar question to the OP: why are these guys so badass? Why is there any contest at all between the Legion and NCR if the Legion guys are like this?

I think the simplest answer is that these Assassins are above-average Legion troops. They are probably equivalent to level 10-15 player characters and therefore tough to deal with (2-on-1) at level 7.

they're strong because they're ELITE troops, as opposed to those pathetic NCR soldiers you guys send them against, but the NCR also has elite troops, they're called rangers.

Assassins are fine.

Do not blame the game, blame the player

I play on very hard+hardcoe and at level 18 I am absolutely DESTROYING assassins (and everything else too) so I think the problem is that you are doing something wrong, not the game is unbalanced.

Please don't cry nerf this and make that easier because frankly I am so sick of games being dumbed down for all the people who aren't real gamers.

Real gamers enjoy challenges.

P.S You do realize that rangers are just as strong right?

Assassins/Rangers are the elite of the elite. They are the very best. They are SUPPOSED to be challenging.

First, I got myself and my companion killed repeatedly when I couldn't fight them off (level 8-10 or so), realized that I wasn't prepared to play an Energy Weapons only character, and then I restarted the game entirely with a Guns character and smarter perks.

My new character was strong enough to take them on, but the first time I met them was right after I cleared Nelson alone, so all my ammo and health supplies were depleted. I ran away and hid behind a rock. It worked!

Now, I am around level 12, my Guns score is at 70, I have two followers, and I haven't had trouble with them for the last couple levels or so. I agree that it is wise to wait awhile before pissing off the Legion.
