Brink? GotY? That game is a mess and the Brink sections of the forums is even worse. It's a disaster over there.
Yeah, I posted that before I saw the reviews, apparently it is as you say, still the others I listed could very well be contenders.
People like to exagerate when they love a game and I don't blame them. The journalists are fans too.
I was reading the user reviews on Metacritic for The Witcher 2 and the fans are claiming GOTY too without having played all the RPGs of this year:
Goty? Probably not
Rpg of the year, well, there haven't been a lot of contenders to that claim yet.
Dragon II kinda dropped the ball when it came out.
Two Towers II was enjoyable to some, but had some serious flaws too it, not surprising considering it's prequel.
Guild Wars II and the Old Republic are slated to come out this year, however both of those are MMORPG's which are usually in there own category. Ditto for DC Universe Online. Though Guild Wars II won't have a subscription fee.
I think Diablo III is slated for this year, but it's going to be tough for it to take RPG of the year because it's a PC exclusive. Though it may win that title in PC gaming mags.
Now Mass Effect II did come out for the PS3 this year, and I think Adam Sessler talked about how it could be Game of the Year this year, but I think he was joking. It was GOTY for a lot of publications last year, and I doubt it will be it again twice, though you could say it did technically come out this year as well.
So that leaves Skyrim, which won't be out tell the end of this year for the holiday season. I have no doubt though that it can steal Witcher II's thunder.
