Midnight Ranch Attacks Bug

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 12:23 am

Hi guys,

I recently started the Midnight Ranch Attack quest by talking to Dusty in his house. After talking to him and going outside to find the Nightkin I got hit by a bug that many folks have been having trouble with where the Nightkin approaches the brahmin pen, but doesn't attack. As a result he just stands there and even if I kill him and take the note I don't have the option to tell Dusty and complete the quest.

I did a bit of research and it seems unless you start the quest with No-Bark and aren't doing Boone's quest or Come Fly With Me you'll get stuck in this quest and be unable to complete. I also don't have an older save to revert to before I even messed with the quest. So, here's my question. Does anyone know of a way to fix this quest?

Thanks,
Ramzie

I had Come Fly With Me active and I talked to the Brahmins owner to complete the quest and I didn't have any issues.

my problem is that he ran off to fight a ghoul, then walked back. I figured I could just shoot him and get the evidence, but did not get dialogue option...because he never killed any brahmin maybe?

is there a code to respawn him? i am on PC, and I would like to close that unmarked quest to my satisfaction

I've never been able to get this quest to bug-out on PC using no mods.

1) Talk to Dusty.
2) Find cloaked Nightkin nearby.
3) Kill Nightkin right there and loot. Never did it with a one-shot sneak attack, but a short battle regardless.
4) Talk to Dusty and collect rewards. (Then steal Hunting Rifle if lockpick is 50+)

Time of day never seemed to matter and I've yet to see that Nightkin attack the Bramin. This Nightkin also respawns every threeish days making for a steady paycheck selling repaired miniguns for 2,000+ caps. Just need to be willing to burn a 2-3 Weapon Repair Kits.

No that is not issue. I always kill him before he kills anything and I can complete quest fine.
Other than that, sorry, I can not help you more. Newer have problem with that quest myself. Once I have found that nitkin well and alive next to Novac under some rocks some days after I killed him in quest. He was cloaked and standing still, reacting to nothing. Will probably not help you much.

Hmm... I had a similar problem where the Nightkin doesn't do anything (I approached days later after being given the quest and he was just standing there in the direct sunlight, uncloaked). I shot him a few times, he died, I took the note, told them, and all was well. I wasn't doing Boone's Quest or Come Fly With Me at the time, I MAY have talked to No Bark about it but the quest was given to me by the guy in the house, so... sounds pretty similar to all your things, maybe a specific PC glitch? Only difference between us is that I play on the XBox
