the quest to go on after alduin?

Post » Sun Nov 07, 2010 5:48 am

after you defeat alduin perhaps the main quest can continue? maybe a follower tried a last ditch attempt at taking over or someone tries to use the vacume of power to their advantage. maybe even something entirely different like a powerful necromancer rising, neighboring countries attacking or the civil war continues...

i just dont want a massive flop afterwards... a climatic battle with a god would be awesome but i dont exactly want the game to end so soon!!!

I hope there's nothing after, but it definitely won't end soon. The main storyline at this point was said to be 20 hours long! I usually like to take my time playing through the main quest, so it'll probably be a good 30 - 40 hours for me. :D

EDIT: Then, of course, I've got thousands of hours worth of other playing to do.

I think the main quest should end, but I do think that new quests should open up after the final battle. Rebuilding and such.

Some quests should open up at different intervals of the main quest as well, change their wording to fit the situation the world is in, or close off when the pc gets to the part where the world is in serious danger and wait till the main quest is finished to become available again. I mean, I know the guard want to catch the women seducing men to steal all their items and clothing outside Anvil...but it just so happens to be raining Oblivion Gates outside. Some things should be more important than others.

How can the main quest continue...if its completed? That's a contradiction. And some of you are assuming way too much. We dont even know if Alduin will return, or if we stop his return, or what. So speculating on zero information is simply wasting time.

It's not like we're going to fight Alduin at the start of the game, so I really don't see the main quest ending too soon being a serious problem, the only way that would be a problem is if the main quest is just too short. In any case, trying to introduce parts to the story after the epic "final confrontation" against the main villain can be a dangerous move, as they often turn out to be much less satisfying, for one thing, it's kind of hard to hold the momentum of the story once the main antagonist is already that, and it's rather hard to introduce a threat that can top a literal god, and once the protagonist has already succeeded in defeating said god, it can be rather difficult to capture a sense of drama with a lesser villain, so I'd say the main quest should just end with the defeat of Alduin, maybe there can be some brief events afterwards, such as a quest to escape from the location of the final confrontation, or serving as an epilogue to the events that already happened, but it can't be too long or I just start to feel that the game should be over already. End the main quest where it should end and just lwt me keep playing to potentially do other quests after it's over, that would be enough for me.

Considering that Alduin's goal is to eat the world, destroying the current one in the proccess, it seems to me that we can logically assume that we MUST succeed in stopping him, after all, you can continue playing after the main quest, which would be rather hard to do if the world is destroyed, we can also presumably assume Alduin is the final boss, as he has been made out to be the power behind the crisis in Skyrim, therefore, it seems pretty reasonably to assume that we will have to deal with him somehow, that this happens near the end of the main quest as if we defeated him half way into it, everything after that would seem trivial by comparison, and that we do succeed in stopping him. How though waits to be seen, though I'm expecting an epic final boss fight of some sort, after the criticisms of Oblivion's ending, I don't think Bethesda will make the mistake of having the day saved by another character summoning a deus ex machina again.

Oh, let's see here...

1: Then don't do a speedrun
2: It's not like the game will end...this is TES after all. All that "ends" are the various quest lines
3: I'm sure you can find something to do after completing the main quest...put the energy that produces all these threads to use. ;)

Depends on you're playstyle might the mainquest of oblivion could you finish in just a couple of hours even with fast travel and putting the difficulty sliders completly to the left ...

On ocassion I did this, in other games I didn't do that ....

I try my first play trough .... (most likely a couple of weeks or even months after the game releases), ... Don't use fast travel, try to walk over run, do side quests ... etc etc
