want to try fallout 2..........again

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:44 pm

ok.........ive tried a few times to play fallout 2 because it was supposedly a great game.....however i cant get past the TB combat system...that got me to wondering. is there a modding community for fallout 2, so far ive been able to dig up a few savegame editors but nothing that actually changes the game itself.

even baldursgate had some mods made for it and those games were pretty close to eachother as far as release dates.

http://www.nma-fallout.com/ for mods.

If you don't like the TB combat, play a different game. And it is a 'great game' whether you like it or don't like it.

Completely unrelated question (:P) ever play chess?

i tried to learn once but got sick and tired of stupid things like "moving castles", cavalry that cant outflank the enemy and other stupid rules. i prefer Medieval Total War for that kind of stuff.

there is no mods section for the other fallout series.

Well, I don't know if it will help, but you can adjust combat speed, which may make it appear more bearable for you.

It definitely is a great game, as was Fallout 1.

But, mate, anyone who can't stand Turn Based RPGs, is not going to have fun with it.

That said, FO3 is decent enough, I would've preferred something a little less.. I dunno.. shallow? maybe that's not the word.. perhaps a nice way of putting it would be "More of a Morrowind, than an Oblivion". It has been fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing the modding community grow bigger, and to bigger. better, and greater things.

Seriously?

there is no mods section for the other fallout series.

Yes there is. Keep looking. :/

When you find it, I personally recommend MiB's megamod for FO2. It adds lots of neat stuff to the game, since it's a huge compilation of a bunch of other mods. A lot of people like the restoration pack, and I'll confess that there's a lot that's awesome about it, but the megamod stole my greasy black heart.

Edit: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php. click the link that says "mods" under "Fallout 2."

This is your opinion of CHESS? Wow.

And, yes, FO and FO2 will always be turn based.

You may want to try the originals again with a character focused more on diplomacy or stealth. This will let you avoid a lot of the combat (particularly the bigger combats when the turns can get quite long) and still enjoy the rest of the game.

I'm not a big fan of Chess myself, too much emphasis put on specific stratagems and opening moves and what not. However I do think you're taking the game more literally than it's intended. ;) Chess is a game of strategy that is representative of war. War is more of a theme, and while many of the tactics it uses have actual military equivalents it's not a "wargame" in the same sense as the game genre.

Oh, and it is possible to flank in Chess.

I think its because Morrowind was developed for the PC (which allows for a deeper gaming experience) where as Oblivion and Fallout were made with the X-Box as the main system (cause it sells a lot more games).

On one hand, its upsetting that Bethesda almost abandoned the PC audience that made it what it is, but on the other hand, they gotta make money so... we get games that look better but don't have as much soul.. IMO

Morrowind was lame compared to Oblivion. Not talking about the Graphics because there is really nothing to compare.

Oblivion had a better story and better side quests. The only thing that Morrowind had going for it was the vampires and bloodmoon stuff, that was a unique aspect. Oblivion had so much random content, made your eyes explode..was rad.

But Morrowind was so in-depth, immersive, every place had a story, and everything was handplaced unlike in Oblivion *cough* Speadtree *cough*
