Gain Infamy? Seriously?

Post » Mon Nov 15, 2010 4:56 am

Reputation progresses from Neutral to Accepted to Liked to Idolized. After reaching Idolized with the NCR, if you do one thing that gains infamy (with Colonel Moore), how is your reputation affected? Do you just drop to liked? Does anything else happen? Is it possible that you've done so much good that you won't drop at all?

Because I'm about to gain my first Infamy with them. What will Boone do?

There are more reputation status than you think. For example I was vilified by Powder Gangers. When I completed Booted and rescued two gangers I was "Merciful Thug". Also after destroying Brotherhood bunker my rep changed from liked to "Wrath Child". I'm not quite sure about it's effects though. Could be just for the sake of cool names.

You can't go back to "Liked" by gaining Infamy. I believe your Fame/Infamy can only be decreased by a script effect that does specifically that.

Instead you'll gain a mixed reputation if you have both fame and infamy with a group.

So, if you are idolized and you gain enough infamy with the NCR, you'll end up as a "good natured rascal"

I'm not going to destroy the BOS for Colonel Moore. So I wonder what it will mean to my standing overall and to Boone. I think I'll be getting a warning from him? Thanks. :)

This is key then. I have tons of good deeds done for them and so I should not be affected at all. This will be the only Infamy. I'd still rather not get that warning from Boone though. :D Thanks!

The amount of fame doesn't affect the amount of infamy.

Fifteen points of Infamy will change your reputation even if you have tens of thousands of points of fame.

Then Good-Natured Rascal it'll have to be. I'm not going to destroy an organization that I see as being semi-open to change while struggling with their own purpose. That would be the norm in a post-apocalyptic world. If the BOS will make an alliance, there's hope that they can all work together for the Mojave and beyond. My only problem with the NCR has always been their leadership but they're the only ones I can support because they have the resources and will to stop the Legion. Thanks again. :)

If you're Idolized with the NCR and lose some NCR fame, you're still fine with Boone. I killed everyone at Helios One once, while Idolized, and he never said a word, so I think you're fine. He only starts complaining if you drop below the equivalent of being "neutral" or some such - you'd have to lose a lot/kill quite a few NCR soldiers at this point.

The only NCR soldiers I've ever killed were the ones that asked me to and that was hard...oh yea, and the spy but I think Boone actually did that. We'll see when I get to tell Moore no. She's not going to like this but I don't care. :P

If you side with the NCR you can always offer a peace treaty between the Brotherhood as long as McNamara is still Elder

He is and that's my plan. It's my plan with

the Great Khans too
but Colonel Moore is such a hard-nose 'wipe em' all out' type that she's making my negotiations more difficult. Everyone needs to try and get along so the world can recover and make progress again...but war, war never changes. Thanks. :)

Boone was really pissed off with me when i went to see Ceasar and did some quest there so i got 'liked' by the Legion.
He did give a warning and i had to tell him it was for infiltration reasons and wasn't happening anymore for him to stay... make sure you do have savegames before you iniciate any contact with him after having had dealings with the Legion because choosing the wrong option will not be tolerated (he's not really the tolerant kind of guy). I don't think he had any opinion on the Brotherhood ... and i even took him along to do all the Khan quests without any problem (though some people did write about being attacked with him along)

Hehe....yeah....he doesn't like it when you start getting friendly with the Legion. You have to remain Neutral or below with them, (to not get any warnings) he has no wiggle room in that area. I don't do any quests for Legion if I have him as a companion. None. I kill everyone in reddish sports clothing that I find and that always keeps a happy, if somewhat crazed, smile on his face.

He doesn't seem to care about anything else...only NCR and Legion rep.

The mixed rep also offers new dialogue options, at least opening dialogue comments from npc's.
Check out Ada Strauss at Novac after you go from idolized and taken out ranger andy - manny - boone and having your rep drop a bit.

I was vilified with NCR on my last game from Primm, when I got to Boone he told me to PO, as I was collecting NCR berrets as trophies I took his head off with my fists.
Seemingly I have a dark side, and a love of headgear even if I don't wear it.

Duh, I get it now. It took me a bit with that chart. It's all going to depend on how many points of Infamy are gained by refusing to get rid of the BOS. If it's not 15, Idolized won't change. I have no other Infamy with the NCR but this could be a big one, we'll see. Thanks again. :)

On the subject of boone :- If A few NCR soldiers or a camp turns hostile on me he will immediately slaughter them all . Afterwards he will come to me and say something like " if you kill anymore NCR ill have to kill you " or something like that . Hes so complicated sometimes :(

Something odd happened to me yesterday. I quick traveled to the Crimson Caravan HQ and killed a couple fiends that spawned and for some reason my rep with the NCR went from "Idolized" to "Dark Hero".

I reloaded and it hasn't happened since.

Again, thank you to everyone on this thread who helped me. I finished For The Republic 2 and did gain Infamy with the NCR because I set up an alliance with the BOS. My reputation remained at Idolized so it must be less than 15 pts of Infamy...it didn't change anything. Just wanted to follow up in case anyone else wants to do this path the way I did it. :)

Hahaha helios was funny, I trigger achemides and the ncr was hostil, boon being boone, just started taunting the enemy, and shooting them, que slow mo head explosion, then boone was laughing. Then 2 minutes later looting the corpses, he warned me we wont fight ncr and how he wont betray them... yeah.

WaitedI can convice him to join me even when liked by the legion ? Win. I will use the legion to get stealthboys then kill the veteran in the safehouse, the go to the fort with boone for caeser. I did want to plant c4 on caesers chair, but having boone would stop that, shame I need to do this for points to unlock his quest.
