Good and Evil

Post » Mon Nov 22, 2010 2:13 am

In Oblivion, whenever I ended up making an evil character that used heavy armour, there was no real way to make him actually look evil.. I mean sure there's Daedric and Orcish, but I ended up having to spend hours finding the complete set of scrolls and spells to the conjure armour so I could glitch it to make it an actual set.

What I'm hoping for in Skyrim is the option to both, be more evil, through quest lines, factions and what not, and look more evil, through armour and weapons. And a nice addition to that would be, there could be a scale... There would be 2 or 3 sets of default, dropable, armour (light heavy and robes) for evil, and the same for "good" like paladinic looking stuff or something, then there's all that inbetween which is the just regular armour you'd obtain anyway.. and If your Infamy or Karma or whatever, is tilted on the bad side, more drops from chests will be evil armour, and more enemies will wear the good ( what sense would it make to be evil, fighting evil? In it's basic form it's just not as fun ) if your good it's vice versa.

That's my idea, mind you it came to me as I stumbled out of bed and got into the shower, so feel free to change it or do whatever your hearts desire. :disguise:

Not sure on this. I don't think the appearance of armour should be based on how good/evil the character is. It's armour, and warriors wear it for protection, not to look good or evil.

No. The world does not cater to some magic measurement of your "evilness".

Seconded. I'm perfectly fine if a certain armor looks particularly sinister of whatever depending on the said armor's origin, but the OP's idea on this matter sounds a tad too cheesy, in my opinion. Sorry.

I like aspects from the OP's ideas on this matter.

Namely: stealth armor when wearing fully glass armor. You practically glowed frigging green.

What about just an option to alter your appearance (e.g. like in Need for Speed) so you can change the colours of your armor around, maybe make some bits larger, others smaller... Hell! Add a spoiler.

We can apply paints and patterns to armors so there is a degree of customisation now.

I'd just like the armor to look like armor.

Daggerfall and Morrowind had fairly neutral looking armor, albeit it still looked cool. All the armor in oblivion was very "Knight-ish"

Skull like pauldrons or spikey armor, and the ability to dye it black, and I'd be content.

Broadly - as I've said on other such threads - there should be as wide a range of armor and weapon choices as possible, so that pretty much any player playing pretty much any character can come up with something that's both appropriate and functional.

I'm not much of a fan of the idea of altering drops and the sorts of things NPCs wear based on some game measurement of "good" and "evil." Even aside from the issue of having the game judge such things (and honestly - how in the world did this forum become fascinated with moral relativism and subjectivism over the past few days?), I just don't much care for the game world responding that strongly to the player character. But sure - there should be enough choices of armor and weapons so that any player can play any character and make him/her look as evil or good or barbaric or sneaky or svelte or loutish as s/he might desire.

Why would you need to glitch the game to get full deadric in Oblivion... I had the opposite problem, when I got full deadric on my good character I didn′t feel like swapping it because it was the best armor I could find but it made my saint like character look like a demon.

Um no. That is ridiculous. Besides, I want all of my warriors to LOOK evil when they're decked out in their armor. If I was going into battle I'd rather look like the baddest mother on the field, not a fairy princess.

Or perhaps I want to play an evil guy who looks perfectly normal. Why would anyone want to wear their morality on their sleeve? Especially if it isn't socially accepted.

Want to look evil? Make your character look evil in character creation.

I don't know about the good and evil part but it would be nice to have more than 1 look for armor i.e. 2 different looking Glass Helms or instead just add more types of armor that would be identical to what is already there except have totally different looks. Just for options.

While I don't mind the idea of several different sets of armor, I personally find the idea of armor changing depending on "good or evil" to be kind of silly. It reminds me a lot of fable, and I just don't really see the point

I definitely don't want armor to be like either an evil set or good set like fable that was so stupid. However i do like the idea of being able to customize your armor a little bit maybe so glass armor isn't bright green and elven isnt yellow. I don't want it to be like need for speed where you can literally put stupid symbol on your armor and like tattoos on it that would be horrible. I don't know what i can relate this too but being able to alter the color of armor in a minor way could be really cool

Awesome. That's what I meant when I said my bit. I'm happy.

I don't really have a problem with what armor you wear making you look good or bad...
My only problem was, in Oblivion really the only sneaky looking light armor was the leather armor. As you got better armor, you became less of a silent assassin/theif type and more of an archer and then knight type. Especially glass.

Absolutely not. Granted, a lot of the Armor designs in Oblivion looked too Disney for my tastes, and the argument that the Daedric armor looks "Evil" is kind of valid, though I'd rather say it looks "Imposing" than evil. I'd prefer the Armors to look neutral, like in Morrowind, and so far, they definitely do. Dovakhiin's armor in particular could go either way. And even the Elven armor, though elegant, doesn't really strike me as "Good", in terms of some morality vibe I get from it.

there should be a range of armours, to suit as broad a range of playstyles as beth feels is neccessary to incorporate. I dont see why people are so apposed to having a few pieces of armour which look evil/
