A Dungeon of Extreme Difficulty

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 4:55 am

I'm hoping there will be at least a few sprawling, labyrinthine dungeons like in Daggerf-HEY!

This is Skyrim we're talking about. Do you think the great http://uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Labyrinthian from Arena will make a return? It would be quite shameful if Bethesda forgot to include one of the greatest manmade structures in Tamriel in the game: not only that, but it'd be a great way to help connect the locations of the games together. After all, Red Mountain and the Imperial Dungeons were revisited after Arena in Morrowind and Oblivion, respectively.

There must be at least one of these. A dungeon that is not the least bit scaled, and can only be conquered by players at their peak. Full of traps, puzzles, and death around every corner. Something to make real men piss their pants in fear. Make torches your only source of light, and every step you take that doesn't kill you is a blessing. When you reach the end, your only reward is your own life. At least for a few minutes, before you are finally executed by 10 elder dragons.

Ok, maybe not that hard, but definitely a huge unscaled dungeon designed to challenge the most skilled players. Give it a lot of traps and high level enemies, and something shiny at the end, and people will be happy. It's always fun to just have one great trial tucked far away with no point other than to find out whether or not you have the balls.

I bet one of those "1-2 hour" dungeons is Labyrinthian. You can see it on the official map after all.

Yes, but I'd only do it if it ment I'd never have to worry about money in the game again.

By the time you are at max level with all the best equipment in the game, you would have nothing left to BUY anyway.

That's the irony of being wealthy; the more money you have, the less money you actually need.

So the best kind of reward for such a hard dungeon isn't money; it's a trophy. Like, the head of the monster at the end of the dungeon, mounted on the wall of your house.

The final boss of said dungeon will live in a large room filled with dragon skeletons and is an over-sized Mudcrab, who killed the dragons that used to live there.

Haha. I don't know about a giant sized mud crab; as that has already been done.

I'd prefer to fight 2-3 dragons at the same time, that'd be epic.

This is an Elder Scrolls game. It has to cater to a mainstream audience of kids who usually play action games, so unfortunately epic dungeons are a no no. The dungeons have to be fairly easy, well-lit so they're not too scary, and not too long in case the target audience gets frustrated and fed up.

I'm thirteen years old and the only "action" game I own is Uncharted, everything else is an RPG......

Only if you walk past/through it without actually needing to go to the hardest parts.

The whole point of the "ultimate dungeon" is that it is a challenge that is even greater than the last boss of the main quest. So it doesn't make much sense for you to find the last boss easier if you had to fight your way through even tougher enemies just to get to him.

It defeats the purpose of the Ultimate Dungeon if it becomes the Final Dungeon instead. They shouldn't be the same thing.

A dungeon I could actually get lost in and need to explore for a few days instead of a an hour or two would be awesome.

I fear you could be correct, but how amazing would it be to fight your way through a 4 hour long dungeon, with unique monsters, a rare artifact and possibly a lost library buried deep within that has diaries of the beginning of tamriel and other cool literature, maybe confirmation of the Falmer actually existing, maybe undead of ghost falmer. the possibility to do something hugely rewarding is great. obviously this sort of dugeon would have to be on the very edge of the map somwhere and very hard to find. Maybe you only hear about it in rumors/myth and have to do your own treasure hunt and solving of ridles to even just find it let alone beat it.

Oh well back to reality; like I said your probably correct.

I really hope something of this caliber is instated into Skyrim.
Something to truly test the player after everything is said and done would be simply mind blowing.
