Dual-wield magic?

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 2:45 am

Okay, so apparently Bethesda has confirmed that dual-wielding not only various weapon combinations, but also various magic combinations. What are your thoughts on this?
A few things to think about :

1. Will combining spells make them more powerful & mana consuming?
2. What schools of magic can we combine? Conjuration spell with a destruction spell perhaps?

I'm very excited about hearing if you can not only combine magic, but also different schools can be used together :)!

Magic combinations are apparently still being toyed with and there's not much info. We have gotten two examples, though: combining the Chain Lightning spell with the Circle of Protection spell imbues the repellant forcefield with electricity, shocking any enemies that it pushes back. There's also been talk of Detect Life being combined with an Enrage spell so that it can be cast through a wall, though that sounds a bit more dubious.

Not so far. You can have two different spells, and not combine them, or two of the same spell, for a huge fireball or a total healing spell. Probabl can't combine two different ones because we now have several ways to cast the same spell.

I would think combining telekinesis + fireball would make a more forceful blast or something.

I'm also curious how it will specifically work. Will 2 fire spells combine as if you are casting two at once? Will it consume just as much mana as casting the same spell twice? If so, then I find he concept more or less pointless. Just a faster casting rate.

When surrounding by hordes of angry beasties it will be super handy to do a double-stuffed aoe fire explosion of doom!

Fire, fire! Heh, heh.

Apparently you can cast each spell individually by pressing the appropriate button, or press both to cast a bigger version. That means rapid-fire fireballs or a big fat one to fry up any non-Dunmer you choose, since we all know that fire is nothing more than a minor annoyance to the ashborn.

Sounds like Magicka to me. Cool game and combining the elements to see what different types of attack you can make is pretty fun.

In magicka you can, for example... Combine water and fire, making steam. Then combine lightning with steam to get a small bonus to your lightning (steam consists of water which makes lightning stronger). Obviously you cannot combine lightning and water. To top it off, you can combine arcane, steam and lightning, giving you a ray of zapping steam that pushes monsters back and makes them explode to bits and pieces when they die, damaging other nearby enemies (and you).

You could also combine cold and water, getting ice. Then combine with arcane to empower ice. Lightning to give it a zapping power. Cold to freeze nearby enemies. Earth to make protective boulders. Combine all these and use it as an area attack and you get a ring of freezing protective boulders that zap enemies and damage them with ice and blow up doing damage to nearby enemies when they get destroyed.

I've played Magicka to death. The fact that you can't FQFQASA beam your foes to bloody giblets will be a minor detriment to Skyrim's awesomeness.

I do hope to see something like a blast of steam that knocks enemies down if you go fire/ice, or flames/ice jumping between foes if you combine either with lightning. That'd be cool.

Well, they are taking OUT spellmaking....

So probably we will be able to combine effects into one spell. how those combination spells will work is still to be seen.

Like it's been said earlier in this thread, the latest press demo confirmed spell combinations in limited form at least. The hardest part of making the spells (since honestly the visual aspect is just particle effects) will be deciding what each combination does and of course balancing said combos.
