NCR Idolized + NCR disguise = Neutral

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 7:48 am

So, I've noticed since obtaining the NCR Ranger Combat Veteran whatnot and so forth armor from the Ranger Safehouse that even though I'm normally idolized by the NCR, whenever I wear their gear and am "disguised" as an NCR trooper I suddenly go down to having Neutral rep with them.

Is that supposed to happen? Doesn't make sense to me.

Faction armor sets your rep to neutral so long as it is equipped.

Because your just a regular NCR guy not the legendary heroic Courier.
When your in the veteran ranger armor a few of the guys at the various camps do have different dialog as if you were one of those rangers especially during the quest. Return to Sender.

I think that if you have it on it should be classed as a "Soldier" :P
But yeah I guess because you are a normal soldier not the Iconic Hero etc etc they will not think of you being special with that armor on. :D

The Legion recruits still insult you even when wearing a Centurion's armour, which can get quite weird. IMO, this actually prevents us from roleplaying as a member of the NCR or Caesar's Legion, since we can't get on their good side and wear their armour at the same time. (Unless we never unequip the faction armour)

Granted, we don't ever become a member of either faction, but I'd like to be able to imagine myself as one of them, but still be in good standing with them and be vilified by their enemies. Maybe the armour in the safehouses could be patched so that they are not counted as faction armour, so we can wear them as "uniforms" and not as disguises.

Agreed.

I envy PC folks for their abilities to modify armors and whatnot for little annoyances like this.

Some of the Ranger casual garb is not faction aligned. My Idiot/Savant Cowgirl has been wearing ranger neckerchief gear lately. She actually thinks she's a real Ranger. (BTW, if you haven't played a 1 intelligence character yet, you gotta go to Helios One and battle wits with Fantastic. Oh. My. God. funny).

On another note, I haven't tried this yet, but if you are wearing, say, NCR Mantle armor, and your rep is set to neutral, and you do a few things to gain rep, does your rep, while wearing the armor, go up? I know that I snuck into the Fort once while vilified by the Legion while wearing Legion disguise and once I started killing the football team, I kept getting the pop-ups about my rep going down from neutral until I was vilified again, but while wearing the disguise. Do you guys think this works in reverse? Has anyone tried it?

I have worn the Ranger Veteran armor while gaining fame for the NCR and rep stayed at neutral... take off the Veteran Ranger armor, and it switches to idolized... put it back on, back to neutral.

Yeah, but the Ranger casual garbs don't provide much DT.

You can get reputation changes while wearing faction armour, or at least negative changes, since I never wore one long enough for any positive reputation changes. The thing is, if you get vilified by, let's say the Legion, while wearing NCR armour, the moment you take off and re-equip the NCR armour (or any faction armour) your reputation with the Legion becomes neutral again, but you should still be vilified by the Legion if not wearing any faction armour.

So your "true" faction reputation only takes effect when not equipping faction armour, wearing faction armour resets your reputation with major factions (probably just NCR and Legion) to neutral whenever you equip them.
