The New Deus Ex has PERFECT conversations for Skyrim

Post » Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:04 am

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTwqe07VBoo is the link to the full gameplay trailer and at about 6:30, jensen talks to a bartender. The screen still zooms in, but the bartender keeps typing at a screen to his side. i hope dialouge looks exactly like this. Along with the facial expressions, it honestly made me feel like i was talking to the bartender, and i wasnt even there. Agree? Disagree?

I'll have to see a Skyrim conversation before I can agree or disagree. I still don't like that zooming though.

I agree. The zooming was a bit off. It kind of zoomed to the wrong place.

Agree. I never thought a new studio can pull off a worthy Deus Ex, but seems like they nailed it.

................if you were up to speed you'd already know there is no zooming in Skyrim and the conversations are fluid, don't stop time, and you can end them by walking away, this has nothing to do with Skyrim.

I think this is so they can do the conversation wheel off to the side.

It seems like you can't move at all during those conversation. In Skyrim you can. I will say it's looking good though and that was PS3 footage. Gives me hope.

Very nice but each convo in sr couldn't be that intricately animated or there'd be 'no' room for the 1000s of movable items and 100's intractable npc, or am i Wrong. Maybe one day.

I don't know about anyone else, but the dialogue didn't match up with the lips of whom was talking.

I don't like the dialogue wheel. Lips didn't move with the old man's mouth (could be a glitch or the video is out of sync, but whatever). You can't even move the camera. So, no. I think Skyrim will have better conversations.

L.A. Noire conversations are great. Better than Deus Ex.

The audio and video in general seem to be out of sync to me.

forgetting about the fact that that youtube video is out of sync with the soundtrack, it doesn't seem appropriate for Skyrim. 90% of the dialogue seems to be activated by walking around, without any player choice as to what to say.

As for the other 10% where the player chooses you are proposing that a system which categorizes all player dialog into:
Advise
Insist
Pinpoint

Is somehow an improvement over Oblivion's NPC interactions? At least with Oblivion you occasionally had some interesting conversations with NPCs.

Agreed. Anyway, if I could have anything from other games with regard to conversations, I'd want the tech from LA Noir. Maybe next gen. As is, from what we know, I agree with others that what we're getting in Skyrim sounds much better than what we see here.

Unfortunately we won't really know until we see it in practice.

it reminds me of mass effect in alot of ways in the conversations, also i get a metal gear(the reactions and such) and fallout3(the first person stance) vibe from the combat. The game looks good but they better step up the worlds interactions, it just seemed plain boring walking around in the city, also the painted on backdrops are so un detailed and out of place i laugh when i saw it, i just hope this game isn't a metal gear, mass effect combo as i was hoping the game would really try and set its self apart and show a lot of dynamic gameplay mechanics that haven't been seen before. only time will tell if the new Deus Ex can prove its self on release day.

While true, I have no reason to doubt that it will turn out better. It sounds like it will be a lot like Oblivion except you can walk and look around while you talk provided you don't walk off too far. That already sounds better than what's in Deus Ex here (and that's of course ignoring the bad audio sync in this video). I'm only talking about the mechanism of the conversation system too just to be clear because, although I have no reason to doubt it will be greatly improved, voice acting is also a question. The mechanism though sounds like a vast improvement to me so far, and I'm sure the voice acting will be better and more varied too, but yes, we'll know for sure when we see Skyrim's dialogue system for ourselves. :user:
