Talking in skyrim

this is just a general question, would you like people to talk more often to you, and start conversations with you, rather than the other way around? I dont mean all the time just on some occasions

Well, in Oblivion people would start conversations with you sometimes, but only when they had something quest-significant to say.

I guess it would be kind of cool for some generic NPC to start a conversation with you and maybe ask you about someone in town or something, as though they, too, are on a quest. But I think that would lose its charm after hundreds of hours of gameplay. After a while I'd just want people to shut up and leave me alone, and there's only so much they can ask about before it gets repetitive.

Like coming up to you asking for help with a quest or coming up to you, telling you about mudcrabs? If it's the former, I'm good with that.

Where's the poll option for a mixture of both? I mainly want to be the one to start conversations, but a mix is fine. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out with the new dialogue system, which is one of the main things I want to see at E3.

i could see it now a character comes at you from across the street just to say "i saw a mudcrab yesterday" and your only reply options are either "horrible creature" "snort" or "GOODBYE"

I only want a character to talk to me if its quest related or Ive never met them. If they have nothing important to say they should leave me alone.

It didn't happen very often in OB as far as I can remember and it never disturbed me in any way. If I'm right and read and heard all relevant info then it certainly won't hurt in Skyrim. Dialogue should be easy to break off or that's what I've read. We know they will by the way. Those duels and people asking you about items you drop in the street. Sounds like this is the kind of thing you're wondering about.

But if you mean the random comments people would make to you when you walked by.... considering the number of OB mods people made to make that pvssyr stop, I don't think they'd want more of it. :)

Don't care. Now that they've done away with the "freeze game world and zoom in" mechanic, I can ignore all the annoyances wanting to run up and talk to me.
