Canoe or boat as transport?

I think it would be cool if you could have a canoe to go down the river as a mode of transport. Youd be able to control it and it would drift downstream if you didnt row and it would be harder to row against the water. It would be lovely to do that

Meh, that would have very limited usefulness.

Yeah, and to keep it moving in the right direction you'd have to play a rowing minigame and...

No. Just...no.

But its something to do right! Some people would love to have a canoe to further expand their RPG experience and admire the beauty of the game whilst going downstream

With things like this, those of you who don't want to do it yourselves have to think beyond yourselves. If you can paddle a boat around, so can an npc. Would it be cool to see an npc fisherman taking a boat out to do some marlin fishing? Then come back two days later and have a huge fish the size of his boat in tow?

Or people in a small farming hamlet rowing their canoe to sell produce at the larger town across the lake. If they treat the boats the way Oblivion treated the horses, it would be a cool feature for the game.

One thing a lot of people don't know is that TES: Arena actually has controllable rowboats! Basically all they do is overlay some sprites on your screen and let you slide across the water without losing stamina, but it's a nifty feature all the same and one which I'd love to see return.

I suggested a while back that there should be ships in major port cities which depart at scheduled intervals. Perhaps they wouldn't be in realtime (and would have to disappear when you aren't looking), but it could add a very interesting dynamic to the game if you had shopkeepers receiving a new stock of items now and then, or perhaps an assassination quest where you had to decipher where an NPC's ship was headed and beat them there.

Boats are confirmed we just don't know if they are part of fast travel or not.

Are there enough rivers/lakes to make that worthwhile?
BTW, you paddle a canoe, you don't row it ;)
