Red Dead Redemption Fast-Travel

Snip

Most of these I've never seen.

And I understand what you're saying to an extent. But these are two different types of options.

One, is the option to turn something on or off, usually in options menu or at the start of a game. And the other, is simply the freedom of choice within certain gameplay mechanics.

They're different, serve different purposes - and there can be a lot of the latter.

I do. But not THESE kinds of options. Yes, I like screen resolution or turn subtitles on or off...but not:

-Show amulets on armor - Yes.
-Show yourself sleeping - Yes. Better than looking at a meter.
-Show yourself riding on a carriage - Yes.
-Have guards arrest you when you break into a house - Yes.
-Turn on/off guards follow you when you sneak - No. Gaurds will hunt you down.
-Turn on/off bounties - No. Bounties are bounties live with decisions.
-Turn on/off monsters attacking you on sight - No. Monsters are monsters,
-Enable bar fights - No. Only if you go in unarmed.
-Turn on rumors - No, you hear things you don't want to when you go to work or from your family.
-Turn on dragons using different types of fire -No. Dragons will use what they want.
-Enable fast-travel - Yes.

And the list goes on and on!!!!!!111!!! :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh:
Bethesda can't make EVERYONE happy with every single little detail through options.

There we go.

No. It's suppose to be a No to all of them. I was making a point of how ridiculous so much options would be.

I totally agree. On my OP though, I'd want this to be Fast Travel, not an OPTION of Fast Travel. However, some will disagree, and that's obviously fine, I'm just throwing my opinion out there.

I disagree with most but there are some that seem fine.

Rediculous to you yes.

It doesn't really matter. Bethesda is not going to include so many options.

I think there is a good chance we'll see RDR style carriages in SR.

People want too much options. Every thread...options, options, options, and options! I sit on these forums all day...I know what I see. :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh:

If you don't like options, go play something like Call of Duty. But even there, you have to choose which guns you want to use, so there may be too many options for you. But in a RPG, options are generally good to have.

If the carriage system was put in,I'd personally think it would be cool if the driver would tell us rumors he has heard which could lead to quests around Skyrim etc.

It is in :) As for getting quests from it? Who knows? That'd be neat though

I meant options as in the options menu...not like choosing a weapon or race.

In RDR, you can Fast Travel by first going out to the wilderness away from any roads on flat, dry land. Once you're in an appropiate spot, you then go to your inventory and select the "Camp" icon (In the game, you have a standard camp, but you can buy upgraded ones.) The screen will then go black for a couple of seconds (for loading purposes) and it will then show your character laying back and warming his hands on the campfire. You will then be provided with some options, one of them being Fast Travel. You can select that and then click which pre-discovered place you want to Fast Travel to. When you've made your selection, you'll get the traditional loading screen and...Yipee, you're at your location.

I must be missing something here...because what I see described is the stock Oblivion fast travel system, plus an extra loading screen, menu, and having to not be in particular locations in order to use it. So...looking at the subtitle, I've got to ask- Skyrim would "benefit" from this how?

Seriously, I'm not getting it- unless the goal is just to make Oblivion-style fast travel unattractive by making it a pain in the ass to use, and thus encourage use of the carriage system.

I totally agree with this. I didn't get what you meant by the other half of your post though.

Part of it is to encourage the carriage system, because I'm willing to bet most people won't use it unless it's RP.

And the fast travel that I described is just to make it more realistic, but some people don't want too much realism/it's a pain in the ass, but if you've played RDR before, the system is actually pretty good.

If I'm remembering this right, Todd said we zoom out to the 3d map of Skyrim, click on the place we want to be, and the PC walks there. Also, to stop mid-progress, we zoom in. It's reminiscent of a 3d, Fallout travel-screen.

I hope maps and mini-maps are colored.
