armour creation system

ah.. it would be nice if we got to make items!!

some nifty algorithms please!!

i think we should learn how to make items by acquiring perks from trainers (having the appropriate skill, having done a quest, being a friends or having paid a certain amount... perhaps studying the armour beforehand and reading books might grant the perk!!

perhaps the perks could go up in levels too.. increasing as you learn further on the armour or make more of it.

for instance.. orcish

i like to think of orcish as rather samurai like (it was very samurai in morrowind but was toned down in oblivion to a more mongol look)

but... you get to level 75 armorer, go to Mak-gud-amhur who is your friend and pay for his teachings. you gain the level one orc armour perk

you have some books in your inventory about orcish armour, you read it and get the perk up to level 2, you can now make heavier helmets

then you go to the forge.. and you can customize the helmet a little
basic samurai or mongol. they use slightly different materials, samurai is heavier but more protective

after you make this helmet your perk goes up a level and you can make a simple demon mask for the helmet. you can add new parts to the helmet but you cannot replace them.

so as you make and learn more about orcish armour you get to add more interesting additions. the additions should affect the enchant, protection, weight and personality changes

for orcish helmets you would get...
different base helmets
a variety of demonic masks
designs to go on the side... like horns and curling metal flaps
designs on the top
designs on the forehead

for the body there would likely be a
front
back
neck thing (poncho? )

and for the shoulders a choice between large pannels and tight fitting metal segments

different Armour should require different places to make

the large varietys of leather and light armour would not be made in a smith and would infact be made in many places... tanning leather... moulding glass pieces into shapes... spinning silks etc...

daedric armour would have the most variation but its sadly created by magic. most armour would have absolutely lots of variation that could be implemented!! (orcish interests me the most though)

Materials and styles

some materials and styles are wierd... but i think it should be possible to make elven styled armour out of ebony!!! if i can make dwemer then i should be able to make some out of adamantium!!! i cant make dreugh daedric and i cant make bonemould chainmail...

this actualy might sound hard... all it is is some maths and diabolical texturework!!

the material provides the weight and the style provides a weight multiplier
the style provides protection and the material provides a multiplier
a new skin is used

it would be nice if cloth parts of armour could be dyable...

it would also be nice if modders could make new materials and add new styles...

Seems like with a little tweaking here and there it could work, sounds more like just upgrading the armour and not really customizing it. When I think of customization I think of making something completely my own.. But still this idea is pretty good actually :icecream:

I'm hoping we'll get reinforced armour like we did in New Vegas also.

Or :lightbulb: what could happen is.. Say you find a Leather Cuirass, it's pretty basic looking and plain. But then you find say.. An Iron Pauldron (left), with some thread and other materials that were once junk you could attach that pauldron for an upped armour rating, but you could only attach pieces in the same Tier. ( Ex. Say by Oblivions standards.. You could attach a Daedric Pauldron or "plate" to only glass or whatever else armour is in it's tier. Iron could go with fur or leather, Elven and Mithril. ) Of course, Beth would need to add a lot more sets of armour, or even just make up the random little pieces.

so far i am thinking....

styles..

leather (ranging from very easy to very hard)
nordic (ranging from easy to hard)
imperial (ranging from easy to hard)
crude designs (very easy)
elven (hard to very hard)
dwemer (medium to hard)
indoril (very hard)
orcish (hard)
arabic (khajit and redguard) (medium)
chain (medium)

materials to be used as plates

iron
steel
adamantite
mithril
iron/mithril alloy
iron/adamantite alloy
iron/ebony alloy (is this lore friendly?)
ebony
glass
chitin (apparently chitin and bonemould get shaped so it does count)
bonemould
some weird daedric materials?

I agree with OP. More variety in armor is great.

I think that with armor there should be a bunch of styles for each kind. Maybe they are based on different races. Nordic iron would look different than elven iron. Or maybe a bunch of interchangeable parts for each slot of armor. For a helm you can change the overall shape, change face masks, crests, etc. Different modifications on armor could have modifiers like on a cuirass you could do something to it like add metal plates to a light one, and it would add +2 armor but add plus 20 encumbrance.

This would allow for variety within a material, so at endgame(or any other part) everyone isn't wearing the same looking armor like they did at level 20+ in oblivion.
