was Mutant Chronicles used as inspiration for power armor

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:40 am

It is me or does the power armor in FO3 look nearly identical to the armor of the Doom Troopers and other corporation soldiers from the Mutant Chronicles universe (not that crapy movie). Also in Broken Steel the new Enclave Soldiers look like Bauhaus Dragoons. The SMG also closely resembles the Bauhaus SMG. My sources are the 2nd edition MC rpg rulebook and the Warzone: Forces of War book. I would like to think that the art of the MC universe did inspire the FO universe. Anyone have any thoughts.

Not that I know of, the similarities are just coincidence likely. Of course I can't completely remember what a Doom Trooper looks like, its been a while since I played Mutant Chronicles, and that was back years and years ago...

Not really, they may have had similar inspirations but I don't think "Mutant Chronicles" had anything to do with any of the Fallout universe's design.

My guess is going to be that if anything, any resemblance was more subconscious or coincidental than anything. If anything, I'd say more of a Warhammer 40k influence than anything. (Simply because a lot of the art direction in Mutant Chronicles is clearly influenced by them - I had originally thought Mutant Chronicles was a GW spin-off when it first came out, actually.)

(And actually, I didn't the movie was half-bad, really. Kind of a fun action romp with a neat bit of art direction - even if it didn't really "feel" like Mutant Chronicles, for the most part. Plus Devon Aoki's adorable...)

Actually all power armor is based of of the Starship Troopers novel, which is pretty much the consensus of where the idea of "Space Marines" in full body self powered armor came from.

Off topic, but Devon Aoki is possibly the ugliest woman I've ever seen ever. Ever. I'm including burn victims in this category.

Yeah, I can see that. Though I'm still waiting for a game that's as awesome as that book... The Brotherhood Armor is cool and all - but can it make orbital insertions, come equipped with it's own jet pack, and pretty much single-handedly invade an entire planet crawling with aliens? :)

The Enclave Officer's Uniform also closely resembles the uniforms worn by the officers in Starship Troopers.

Hehe I agree we need a movie that lives up to the book, the movies were the worst mangeling of a book alongside V for vendetta.

For those that dont know, in the Books they were pro-capitalist anti- tolatarian, communist the movie had to fall into let make the humans look like bad guys cause that is teh cool thing.

I always though the Enclave officer looked like Imperial Officers, either they said it or I subconciously heard them yell "Wateland Scum"

Actually, I kinda always thought power armor was inspired from diving equipment... but the startship troopers mix is also valid obersvation.

I would have to agree that Starship Troopers is the father of power armor. Think it's about time to read that story again.
