Where they found all the Power Armor

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:39 pm

In any holodiscks in any of the games does it ever mention where they found all the power armor? Or should we assume all the power armor was found in the bases they take over? I only ask because i was just thinking aobut how somewhere in the game it sasy that the eastern brotherhood found their power armor in the citadel (aka the pentagon)

The main soruce of the BOS's power armour is from the BOS's founders. They brought it with them (were actually wearing it) as they walked from Mariposa to Lost hills.

Then that brings up a new question: where did they find all the rest of the power armor that all the other paladins wear?

Military Stockpiles. After all, they've got dibs! :D

... what?

Seriously, they more-or-less started out when the war was over, before most people realzied how to scrounge up weapons and gear. They had military-level access, and probably could simply walk into any nearby military armories without having to go through a crapton of security robots and sentry guns. It wouldn't take too much effort for them to start looting their own military bases.

The BOS are descendants of Maxson's soldiers, and they were never a big group. The power armors simply went from generation to generation.

Nope, the Brotherhood of Steel does not have the knowledge and/or resources to make new power armors. Only the Enclave does.

Well if the brotherhood can make something like liberty prime, i think they would know how to make power armor.

They didn't make the Liberty Prime, they just found it and repaired it. Just like with power armors.

A goal to rebuild something isnt proof that they built something.

If you have a look in the terminals in the citadel, you'll see proof that Liberty prime is a pre war construction, that the Brotherhood completed/repair.

The BOS offcourse are able to repair there gear. Even upgrade but dont know how to build it from scratch...

In the BOS there are heavy penalty's for damaging your own gear. And you better run away if you lose your powerarmor cause
they will shoot you in the face!

Yeah, it's like a suit of armor from the medieval ages - a rare item that requires a lot of craftsmanship and resources to make. You pass them down over the years and keep it in good repair.

I'd say realistically, if you really got right down to it, the Brotherhood probably could make a set of Power Armor from scratch. But you also have to take into account what this would require. Machined parts, computer-aided design, frictionless bearings. You'd likely need a whole factory dedicated to this. It's not something you can just put together in a Warehouse.

Think of it this: You're stranded on a deserted island with no tools at all. And you want to make a Swiss Army knife. Okay, that's well and good - say you have a manual that tells you how to make one, even. You just need to smelt some steel, weld it into the right intricate shapes, and put them together. Before that step, though, you have to mine the ore. So you need tools for that. But where do get the tools to make those tools? You have some rocks and sticks. First you have to make (out of rocks and sticks) something that you can use to make the tool to make the tool that will let you gather the resources you need to make the tools that will make the tools that you can use to make what you want.

They've got plenty of scavenged material, sure. But making a whole suit of Power Armor would mean they'd have to dedicate an entire factory just for that purpose.

The Enclave can do it - because they already had factory, presumably. The Brotherhood would have to make their own. And first they'd have to put together the machines that would make the machines that would be used to make each intricate piece of the Armor. If they really wanted to, could they do so? I don't see why not, but it would be quite an undertaking. And the Brotherhood is more focused on keeping alive what tech remains than building their own.

If memory serves, all the schizo-BOS did was reverse engineer bits of Liberty Prime's operating system and power supply.

As for why the guy would say something like that, I think you can safely ignore it as optimism (or idiotic writing, if you're a less forgiving sort). As nu_clear_day understated in the extreme (you would need a stable industrialised society with adequate natural resources to exploit, at least), the knowledge of how a thing can be done, is not the same as having the means to do it.

schizo-BOS

Please don't use that term. It just perpetuates the myths and steriotypes about Schizophrenia which have little basis in reality.
