Dragons Discussion Thread

I'm a newbie to Elder Scrolls lore, but from what I've read here, there are no "good" dragons in this world, right? Most fantasy settings follow the D&D model where a dragon's color determines its personality, i.e. red dragons are evil and conniving and gold dragons are the opposite.

No I don't think that's confirmed. Dragons use to be good or at least neutral towards the empire and humankind in past Elder Scrolls Lore. Though it sounds like they have written a lot of new lore regarding the dragons of the past so much of that can and likely will be retconned.

We don't yet know if all dragons are bad and against human kind but I guess one could assume that most the dragons in Skyrim will be.

Darliandor and I might be making a site for Dragons. Start off with the collection of info about what role they will play in the game and etc pictures, screenshots, concept art. Just all the info we know and then maybe when the game comes out guides or tips and tactics on how to battle them.

You you Darliandor from his Alchemy Sites.

Hey i didn't want to make an entire new thread asking if i missed any new information on Skyrim so i figured I'de just post it here because this thread needed bumping anyways.

Anything i missed? I've not been following twitter or any other news sources/podcasts this month. Any new info, not necessarily Dragon related either but if so definitely would like to know.

They seem to be wyvern like, meaning they have no front legs and instead have their limbs connected to their wings.

hey guys, so I have a question, recently tried my hand at the gameinformer 'translating the cover' thing (won't link to it here because it's in your first post along with the translation), anyway, worked it out alright, even had some fun singing along with the skyrim theme.
Anyway, so my questions, firstly does anyone know what the tune for the second verse is?
secondly, in the newer gameplay trailer, when they're singing to the tune of the morrowind theme (right after the Dohvakiin shouts "fus ro dah" (I think) at the dragon), what are they saying? has anyone been able to translate it?

Damn, this is gonna take awhile to read Cipher. Looks amazing though. Props for making the most detailed data base on Skyrim's dragons I've ever seen. Hope it doesn't die down any time soon.

What did Todd Howard mean when he just said, "Nords use to worship dragons?" Just said it on GT TV (Spike) in their Skyrim bit.

Does he mean when they use to worship Akatosh hinting at they no longer do or did he just mention something we don't know about yet, about the dragons being banished thousands years ago... And that humans or nords of Skyrim use to worship them?

Hmmm?

Nord gods are all dragons like Ysmir and Alduin. Considering that he said "used to", I'm assuming that the recent events in Skyrim have shaken their faith and they no longer worship them like they did at Bruma in Oblivion. I really haven't a clue though.

wow this is a info-packed thread. answered a lot of my questions and I still need to look at this page more

i'm committed to learning the dragon language before the game comes out

elder scrolls is deep. I'm spiritual as all hell and somewhat into common spirituality. alduin/akatosh being the time bringer and heralder of the apocalypse. that's deep in a lot of ways
and I've read that there are two gods (forgot names) who's names translate to "is" and "isn't"
that's sangralla. the "holy grail". thesis and antithesis

bethesda didn't just pull this out of their ass. this has real meaning. the date it comes out on has real meaning(me thinks anyways. 11:11 respresenting the equinox)

this all gets me excited

O brave new world! O brave new world with such vidya and prophecy!!!

I like the animations... and that's something I'd never thought I'd say about a Bethesda game. I barely expected them to get the running animations of people right, let alone a flying dragon's animations.

As if the concept of defeating just several dragons in Bethesda's forthcoming Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim wasn't enough to get your dragon-murdering blood going, maybe this little bit of info from producer Todd Howard will: "There is an unlimited number of dragons" in the forthcoming game, he told Norwegian magazine Gamer.no (according to a fan translation on Bethesda's forums). Not only will dragons appear in scripted encounters, but they'll also be randomly generated in the gameworld.

The translation also notes that "all dragons speak" in the game, with Howard fu rther explaining "it's actually what they do when they are spouting fire." He hinted that some dragons will be able to communicate with the player in "the common tongue," though we're distinctly worried about what happens when a dragon can't remember the "common" word for something. Does he try to pronounce it in dragon, and accidentally set ablaze whoever he's speaking with? Either way, it sounds dangerous.

Well at least we now know for sure... some of us guessed this would be how it was... sorry if im a little late.

I hope there are side quests concerning the 'lesser' dragons - such as bandit dragon hunters who hunt them for pleasure, and you can torture them...or kill them. I'd do both. Filthy scum. If they were in this game t i would love it.
Dragon-murdering? You don't have to call it that, it makes it sound... like a crime.

Defeating a dragon

I personally felt that a description of a dragon battle I read implied that the dragon will fly around and around and around until you bring it down to the ground with arrows or spells.

Doesn't that imply that every character that wants to complete the main quest HAS to use the limited ranged weapons of TES, and thus detract from the role playing aspect? Or am I speaking out of my excretory system and that belief of mine ^ is entirely incorrect.
