I agree. I don't really like the repetetiveness that was in Oblivion. Closing all those gates (even if you didn't have to for all the cities).
Morrowind also had some repetetive elements, like the Great Houses and the tribes. It wasn't as repetetive in the same way though I think, since each quest for the tribe was very varied. Great Houses was more repetetive though...

Most campaigns today are like 8 hours long. 20 hours long for the MQ + 180 hours of side material? You're getting your money's worth.

Quality over quantity I agree, but they don't have to exclude each other. I can see a 40 hour main quest with no repetition at all if they really want to.

The only thing that made Morrowind's main quest longer was the tedious asking of the houses to be named Hortator and the Ashlanders to be named Nerevarine.

Skyrim will likely be slightly longer. Hopefully with more replayability since much of Oblivion's was going into gates and what not. There will be more quests for sure but I am not sure of how many hours the main quest will be. The reason there was a smaller amount of things to do in Oblivion than Morrowind was all because of disk space. Did you know that they originally had an Arena in EVERY city? They had to cut them all because of disk space.

Well there IS a way to skip it... I'm not telling.

It was released atleast 3 times that the MQ will be 20 hours long.

I feel ashamed in all of you.

18 hours sounds fine to me  I think that's already a lot longer than the Morrowind or Oblivion main quest.

As long as there's substantial story outside of the main quest I'll be happy :)

Main quest? What's that? :P

I mean, aside from something I'll do once or twice then get down to exploring the real game. :D

Sort of. I like the MQs because I enjoy a story. But I think if that's all the game was it wouldn't matter to me. The game itself, the exploration, tons of quests, life and characters. That is what the main quest is ;)

I actually felt in Morrowind that the main quest was quicker then the one in oblivion, but that may have been because the closing of gates just plain irritated me, and I hope for less daedric action from this game then in oblivion also, Daedra are getting boring lol as they were just too common, and they all looked alike, the ones in the mad gods world were cool, but your average daedra and daedra kin bored me to tears after 500 hrs of game play

I'll enjoy the dragons as long as they aren't push overs.

One of the things I am concerned about is if the game will b longer or shorter or the same length as oblivion... Oblivion's length was shorter compares 2 Morrowind, so I hope the devs don't make skyrim shorter than oblivion... Anybody feel the same way?

well MW left several gaps or points in the MQ that encouraged or allowed the player to go out and do more adventuring that did not envolve the quest. and that was kind of necessary because if you just did the MQ exclusivly you would not get strong enough fast enough to go through it. in OB you could do the MQ at level 2 so there is no need to encourage players to go out and do their own stuff, which was also a given for most players any ways. so I think that alot of OB quest might have felt shorter but idk if it really was.

imo I don't want the MQ to be too big because it will eat up space for other quests like guild quests which OB had too few of. but not shorter either because the quest would feel insignificant.

I dunno it just doesn't really fit in TES imo. I usually find dragons awesome.. but wha I love bout TES is the unique exotics stuff in the universe like dwemers ect. Dragons are just so mainstream and overused I really don't think they're an interesting enemy for a TES game

They are pretty typical in terms of the fantasy genre, but I'm glad they're around. They'll be exclusive to this one TES so I'm looking forward to how they'll be doing it all. :D

I don't know how long it will be however I hope it is around the 40 hour+ mark plus 350+ hours of side quests (guilds, one off quests from npc around the game world, exploring ruins, collecting artifacts, maxing out your character etc), add onto that any expansions released for it, I am hoping for a game in total length when everything is taken into account to be around 600 - 700 hours.

Before anyone says anything I may well be in dreamland but that is part of what this forum is for, to express wishes in the hope the developers from Bethesda see it and take notice.
