New Vegas is outselling Fallout 3.

Post » Sun Jun 13, 2010 9:42 am

I looked back about four pages, didn't see this, so I decided to post it.

Thanks to Brother None over at ye old NMA.

VGChartz http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/82519/fallout-new-vegas-passes-14-million-units-in-week-one/ Fallout: New Vegas sold 1.4 million copies, 30% more than Fallout 3 at this point in its release cycle. 850,000 units were on Xbox360, 460,000 on PS3 and the remainder on PC, the majority of sales being in North America.
It's worth keeping in mind these tracking numbers are guesstimates, but well done regardless.

Wow, not even 100,000 PC players. That's a bit surprising. Anyway, good to see the game's doing well. Hopefully most of these people aren't experiencing a lot of the bugs that have been hitting a lot of the users on these forums.

PC sales as always don't include digital downloads which account for the majority of PC sales these days.

That means FO3 did it's job, that's all. Just whetted the appetite for the "new" version of Fallout. Or makes you run in terror. Depends on your taste.

NV also appeared to be favored by the folks over at NMA and Duck and Cover!, so that may count as another boost to it's sales.

VGCHARTZ never has info on STEAM sales.

There are a LOT more than 100k PC players.. probably closer to 200k. Steam doesn't stop pirating.

EDIT: Didn't know about the steam numbers not being released. That means there are way more than even 200k.

I wouldn't be surprised if at LEAST 1/3rd of all PC players pirated the game, probably more

Advice: Lay off the talk of piracy please, not a topic of conversation for these forums. Thank you.

As a PC gamer, and someone who is very likely to never own a console for a number of reasons (which aren't relevant to this thread), I wish, when these types of numbers were being given, that we had an indication of PC sales, including digital downloads.

It would be nice to know that releasing games on the PC platform isn't becoming totally financially unviable for publishers.

Oh, and on-topic, it's awesome to know that FNV is doing even better than FO3 at this point in sales. Congrats to Obsidian!

True, didn't think of that. There's definitely quite a few more PC players out there then.

Yeah I agree...

I don't want them to abandon us PC users.

Heck I don't even own a TV much less a console :cryvaultboy: .

I don't want to be abandoned, either. But if they do, I'll be sure to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCfyOXJf3ZM&feature=related

Awesome stats! Thank you for sharing. :)

I am however skeptical of the numbers, 100,000 PC users sounds awefully low given the polls we see here in the forums (the most recent had PC's outnumbering the rest which is also wrong).

If these numbers are close to true, then it means that these forums have significantly more PC users in them than the console users do as a percentage of their gaming populations - and I just don't know if thats really the case.

What does excite me more than anything is this core stat - New Vegas have outsold Fallout3 by 30% at this point. To me that is absolutely huge news given how much New Vegas got beat-up by the reviews for being "the most buggy game of the decade" or some such crap. I do hope these stats hold true, as it will mean the reviewers over-exaggurated the scope of the problems (or were reviewing the game on beta copies that still were horrifically buggy).

However it comes out, this game is nowhere near as buggy for me as Fallout3 was. I have 3 crashes in 60 hours in-game and only a few noted quest glitches. They deserve the sales IMHO. :fallout:

They also don't include the illegal downloads that most PC users do.

Well, that's probably because those weren't "sales."

Well acourse its gonna sell FO3, FO3 was the beginning game if u didnt notice, not much people knew to much about it since it was the first of the series... (By bethesda, i know Fallout 2 and fallout were there but not like FO3) FO3 prepared an already there fanbase for FONV + you have new people who have probably heard about it from others.

Sounds low to me too. But polls sampling any self-selecting group (in this case, owners of F:NV who choose to frequent forums) can often be unreliable.

I’m not surprised that F:NV is outselling F3 in the short term. I imagine there are plenty of people like me who came to F3 years after it was released, but bought the new version straight away.
