Hundreds of hours of game play

Post » Sun Jun 13, 2010 3:05 pm

So articles keep bringing up that there are potentially going to be hundreds of hours for side quests in Skyrim. Do you think this actually means that the QUESTS will provide hundreds of hours? or are they just saying that it COULD take hundreds of hours if you play the game slow enough. I hope it means that it will take hundreds of hours to complete it all even if you ran straight through the game. I miss the length of Morrowind, I'm hoping it will be more like Morrowind length wise. Sorry if this has been posted before i don't believe it has.

Lets say there are 15 2-hour dungeons, 20 1-hour dungeons, 25 half hour dungeons, and 60 15-minute dungeons. That's 70+ hours of dungeons alone. You have a 20 hour main quest. 100 hours worth of side quests. 50 hours worth of pure exploration. 240+ hours of gameplay right there if that happens to be the case.

Morrowind isn't hundredS of hours, yes i'm emphasizing the S, if you run through all the quests.

Yep, just by calculating the amount of time it would take to explore the 120+ dungeons, plus all the MQ, Faction quests, and random overland battles (including Dragons), we should have a very large amount of gameplay available to those who want to do everything with one character.

If the combat balance on hard difficulty is well designed, then even the smallest dungeons in Skyrim will last a really long time.

I play Oblivion with OOO/MMM/Fran's/FCOM/Duke Patricks mods, and it takes hours to get through even the tiniest dungeons. There are very few battles that I get through without dying and reloading at least a few times. The archery mod makes the PC bow more powerful, but I also get one-shotted frequently by enemies. My latest playthrough is approaching 400 hours without even touching the main quest or entering Oblivion yet.

The reports are probably either guessing based on previous titles or have been told an estimate from the team. It will be vastly different for everyone, this is probably intended as an "average" for someone coming new into the game. I myself have probably put in about 400 hours into Oblivion. I wouldn't be surprised if I put even more into Skyrim, asuming it has the same amount of content or more, which is likely the case given the bigger team and the fact that they won't have so many problems with dialogue space and working for new consoles, like they said they did with Oblivion.

Oh dear god yes. I'm not even going to fast travel in the game(except by carriage). Just so I make the game even longer.

That's not even including the time you'll spend leveling up your character.

Only in 2006/2007 I had spent 1000+ hours in OB while trying out different characters, classes and mods. That's about 200 hours per character.

Beths are giving you a sandbox game, you decide what to do. If you lack imagination and need developers to tell you what to do, that's sad :(

I tended to click past much of the dialogue in OB (reading it was much quicker), which would have cut down the hours considerably. From what has been revealed about Skyrim so far and the new dialogue system, I don't think the player has the option to click through conversations but can walk away (not necessarily a good idea, could miss something important).

Including expansions/DLC vanilla Skyrim could possibly have several hundred hours of play, also depending an playing style as well.

Just like in real life. It's up to the player to DECIDE how much he/she wishes to hear. I like it.

If you were to do everything in one playthrough, it'd probably take you about 200 hours. or so its been for Morrowind and Oblivion.

They all say the same thing. I played fallout 3 and oblivion and new vegas to when i finished the main storyline, after that i got bored and stopped playing, even though i still had quests to do.

But like the other games, im never going to explore everything and do every quest, unless I use a guide online. Without the guide, i would probably have finished 65% of the games, after ive done the main quest :/
