In a vault (I won't say which), I had Veronica wait at the top of a staircase so I could clear the immediate zone around the door. Tried to sneak, got the ''caution'' display and she goes all berserk, runs all over the vault and punches every freaking monster in the place, thing is, there's 5 of them and she gets killed (that's why I told her to wait in the first place) then ED-E follows her and the same result happens... I got a little ticked off during that part of the game. Thing I'd like companions to do is not to engage when it's ''caution'' but to engage when I fired my first shot at the guy. Trying to wait for the caution sign to go away, forget it: Veronica is already smashing every people out there.

I wonder...

For those who aren't having trouble with companions, have you ever changed their commands on the Companion Wheel? It seems like a lot of the complaints about companions stem from people who say "I told them to do this" and "I set them to do that." In my case, I have no problems with my companions, and I haven't really changed their default settings at all.

Just curious. Maybe we can narrow down where the actual problem lies here.

The best way to test it is to set them to passive then approach an enemy without attacking it, preferably without even being spotted. Your companion will probably open fire before you even break stealth, which is not how 'passive' is supposed to work. They're supposed to wait until you attack.

Boone don't listen to me when I say be passive on the wheel he still runs around buildings searching till he finds target ruining my sneak attemps and also I tried to change his melee weapon but no he want to use a stuid pipe even when I remove the pipe from his inventory... other then that he really know how to get a head shot lol.

I had Veronica go "limp" on me after getting out of the concealed bunker and fighting those BoS Paladins because I was letting her "whisper" in his ear about going against the Codex. She just stood there, outside the bunker, and did not do anything.

About the only thing the companions are good for, is killing people without getting the -ve karma penalty. Just wound the NCR guys enough, and let your companions kill them - no Karma backlash.

Another thing is, ever since I got the silent running perk, and I'm wandering around in dark quarters - the companions lose sight of me, and stop moving. Then, I have to backtrack to where they were to find them. It got fixed when I turned on my pip boy light, but that kind of defeats the purpose of sneaking around, doesn't it?

I like doing things on my own and companions just mess up my whole stealth ninja kill everything without being detected routine. Therefore I leave Raul at his house but keep his perks.

No matter if I set it to "Aggressive, or Passive"(Yes I have tried and tested both for a extensive amount), Boone does what he wants to do.

Imagine going down deep into one of those vaults with ED-E and Boone. You trying searching the rooms systematically, but you are doomed to fail. Just right when you begin searching, your hear that stupid Trumpet song coming out of ED-E speakers, and Boone spatting out "You won't get away this time". :toughninja:

So what do you do? You go follow them and kill what every got their attention and get back to the same room and continue searching, right? WRONG!
The moment you get back in the first room you were in the same [censored] will happen again, and again, until you get lost in the vault, and can't remember where that first room was. So you are force to search rooms randomly.

Your only alternative is the leave the companions somewhere, but then whats the point in having them? Beside you want ED-E to tag along cause he opens up quests and story when you complete certain quests or speak to certain people.
