Independent- wat

I've always wondered this ever since I saw the independent ending to Fallout New Vegas and got more interested when I actually played through the whole entire game.

Now the question is; Are you the leader of New Vegas? Or simply make it 'free' by allowing the citizens of New Vegas to choose what they want? Since it is seen by your own conversations(Asking Yes Man; "What if I wanted to take Vegas for myself" or at the end when confronting Gen. Oliver Lee and claiming "The Republic has outstayed its welcome - This land is mine", And if you do get the Speech on the General he doubts you have the guts to 'train troops, make supply trous, form cities", etc) it would be referenced that you do take Vegas for yourself as its new Overlord of evil or its benevolent (insertleadernamehere). Although in the ending it is also referenced in some dialoge that you dont seem to control Vegas.

(At Arcades ending where he stays put in Freeside he "teaches the locals to govern themselves" though in the ending where he magically participates in the battle for the Dam he "maintains order". There's also the FotA ending where they claim that you have brought ruin on them just because you wanted an Independent New Vegas.)

The only other refernece to a 'chaos enduced Mojave'(Even though you have a Mark II Securitron army at your disposal and perhaps numerous allies) is in the Boomers ending. Though I can't see why they wouldn't help you maintain Order since you basically made their destruction-filled fantasy come true.

Any ideas?

yes man says
"im gonna be uploading a program from mr. house's databank that will make me more... assertive"

so im GUESSING that yes man is in charge, but you call the shots, yes man just handles all the stuff that needs to be handled (the city building, the route making, the soldier tr... wait, you already have soldiers)

It's left up to your imagination. You could let the more assertive Yes Man just run things on his own. I do think however that Yes Man's new assertive programming doesn't mean he betrays you, only that he'll just listen to you. That's just my opinion though- it's left intentionally vague since Independent is a very "blank slate" sort of ending- you're writing your own story.

Also a lot of it depends on the choices you make, right up to whether you blow up the dam or activate the army at the fort.

That it is Vauge. Or it could mean he wouldn't allow anyone to overthrow you or something. Though I sent power to the fort, since really I want my republic/empire/state/whatever to be under a good control. That and its an army, everyone wants one.

Yeah, I noticed that when I replayed and blew up the dam there were only a few securitrons that showed up at the confronation at the end, as opposed to the horde of them that show up if you activate the fort. I also noticed it gave me the bad independent ending about how chaotic my city was (as if you didn't deal with the families) when I had gotten the good ending before (securitrons put down disorder, mostly peacefully).

If you destroy the dam you also likely destroy your city as it loses access to power and running water. You also don't have enough securitrons to keep things under control. Lucky 38 has its own independent power, so at least you have that.

When Yes Man said he was going to make himself more assertive I assumed he would make it so where he didn't have to listen to anyone. (not as in he is betraying you but so he wont listen to anyone else. Ex, Him listening to you instead of Benny.)

That and what about the rest of the factions that help you? Surely they would at least try to help you in the formation of a Mojave state. Like the Boomers or the FotA.

The followers help you but they become waaay overburdened if you do the independent route.
The Boomers may have limited trade with the outside after their experiences with you but by and large they continue to be isolationist if you go independent and use their artillery to keep prospectors and scavengers out.

Even though the Garret Twins give them all those supplies? Bahh, oh well. I do hope in one DLC they will actually allow you to have some insight on what this new Republic will look like.
