I say go for it, just make sure that it spells out correctly, I would personally not trust an online source but other than that runes are great, I plan on covering much of my body with them myself.

PEOPLE.... Chill, he already said he isnt getting it because of skyrim, he said that that it inspired him. And its not like hes getting anything extreme like the pictures you guys are showing of people with these silly tattoos... So people just relax and if you cant do anything but give these unnecessary life lessons then please reconsider posting...

I like the first one

Just consider how it will looks like on you when you're 65 years old or something before you make the final decision.

He asks for an opinion which one looks better, Not how his mom would react.
We all have different opinions on tattoos and we should respect that just as we should respect each others opinion on other matters.

Personally I don't really like them both... I would choose for your surname though.

To be frank... why? Why on earth does it matter when you are old how you look naked?

Would you want to be 'Frank' if he looked http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/old-smelly-tattoo-man.jpg? :chaos:

(Granted... This fellow seems to be fine with it.)

Really not a problem looks as attractive as any other man of that age... (read unattractive but hey I am not a woman so how can I judge).

Well, that dude doesn't seem to have the problem there I admit, but for the less unfortunate ones when their skins turns dry and wrinkly with age, that smiley face tattoo you got on your buttocks might turn into a sad face.

Well, like all cultural trends... Attitudes change with time, and what was cool at the time may become a regret. I've met people with full sleeves that say its the worst thing you can do (in context).
You [someone] may be fine with it and yet it may severely limit your opportunities (or not, depending on your preferred line of work.)

I gotta' admit.. this one is cool: http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/sharktattoo.jpg

I'm going to side with the people saying it's a bad idea.

Well yeah of course, but still I can only speak for my self and how I think regarding tattoos, I would not get a tattoo just for the sake of getting tattoos nor for them being cool, but that is me and not everyone and in the end everyone will live with their own decisions. I could argue that it is not wise to tattoo your hands and neck (of course not your face either and so on) but that has to do with my current situation that it is not suitable in most professional situations but again in the end it is how people wish to live their life, a tattoo on your torso or arms will not likely affect your life in any negative way at all, from personal experience I've gotten laid more often because of my tattoos so I would argue that they are a good thing! ;) But you could go on and on and anolyse it. I say tattoos are cool if you want them get them, but perhaps reconsider if your first tattoo is on your forehead!

Don't do it bro. Trust me. This will not be cool 10 years from now when Elder Scrolls VII is coming out.

Would you guys shut up? If he wants the tattoo then let him. Its not your body and its also not your decision. He asked what picture looked best, Not if he should get it or not. I'm a fan of tattoos and pic 1 looks best
And btw, Skyrim inspired this tattoo, Its not a actual skyrim tattoo. Its his last name in Norse. I know a lot of people that got their name/last name tattooed in a different language.

Depends. If you're doing this solely because of a computer game, then I think it's pathetic. But, if you're doing it for reasons otherwise, and Skyrim just happens to be that little bit of inspiration to push for it this time, then go ahead if you want.
I hate all tattoos anyway, I think they're disgusting and don't understand how people can get them (especially since when you go old, they look as dirty as can be).

So I've been really wanting to get a tattoo for a few years now, and I'm finally going to do it. My love for the Elder Scrolls and my out of control excitement for Skyrim has inspired me to get my name in Norse Runes tattooed on the inside of my right forearm. I found http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ancient/write-your-name-in-runes.html by PBS NOVA that allows you to translate your name into Norse Runes. Anyway, I've translated both my first name and my last name with the website and I want to know which one you guys think looks cooler.

Please vote in the poll and let me know what you think in the comments!

P.S. Tattoos better be available during character creation in Skyrim...

They're both horrible ideas for a tattoo to be honest. I can guarantee you're not going to like it ten years from now. Wouldn't be suprised if you hate it instantaneously.

When I read the thread title I only thought

After reading the OP I realized that you only want your name in nordic runes and not something like 'Skyrim' or the Skyrim symbol, which would be extremely weird imo. While I'm not a big fan of tattoos I won't try to persuade you not to do it. To me the first image looks best.

When I was younger (and apparently dumber) I sliced two nordic runes with a razor blade into my upper arms with a friend of mine (who did the same). You can still see the scars if you look closely, even though that was 15 years ago. That's really
