Getting rid of mysticism doesn't really matter so long as they didn't get rid of any spell effects.

I leave for a while and you botch Oblivion so very badly. Now I am hearing some things about Skyrim that make me concerned... I mean, no starting class is, er, different, but what is this about you killing MORE skills? And there are rumblings of a total point buy system? WTF? I was boned. Now I fear for my sanity! Why are you making me old before my time? I actually would like someone, preferably a dev, to take my hand, stroke me, and tell me it'll be ok. Please. I like you guys, really, but now I think things are going wrong. And Fallout 3 was so good... Dear Gods please tell me it's going to be ok... *curls up into the fetal position and svck his thumb*

Just get over it it won't be like Oblivion !!!! with that starting Class And think i am gonna like it and the Skills that has been Removed are the useless skills

So don't worry it's Gonna be a Great game

Easy rebuttal in two words: "Says you."

p.s. I'm actually pretty optimistic about the game at this point.

There should be no useless skills... but removing them is not my preferred outcome; better IMO to ensure that there are times in the game when they are of use.

I knew es5 would be a big change as they hinted that it would be right even as ob was being worked on. And the instant they said they were working on fallout 3 I knew it was REALY big.

So I take skyrim the way I took daggerfall.. something new something old something bloody fantastic.. and prolly some bugs.

Dude, it's only like. . 2 things removed. Everyone is happy with the improvement of it, I mean it's gonna be JUST like Oblivion but just 'better' in the graphical and gameplay way, Only those three skills are removed, and ALSO, you still can be a - warrior, mage, and theif, class but instead of picking them like in Oblivion? You have to keep leveling up. Races basically count as classes in this game.

Im not bothered with the class in this game, im just focusing on how AWESOME it's gonna be. :) Be happy.

Nice thread but you lost me at "Fallout 3 was so good"

compared to oblivion falout 3 was good (with the ending fixed), but its got a totally different tone than oblivion so it comes down to personal opinion on which is better, but i think fallout 3 did alot of basic thing much better than oblivion game mechanic wise (hated vats though, it breaks the immersion for me so i never use it). I hope skyrim will use alot of those things that were done well and most ppl liked with fallout 3 (plz not a vats system)

to each his own, imo oblivion was a very fun game. anyways the changes that they are making are just getting rid of those skills but the moves and mechanics within the skill will still be in the game. Also were getting crafting and enchanting back, shouldn't you be more thankful :P?

Honestly, Fallout 3 was better without Broken Steel "fixing" the ending. Yeah, the original ending was poorly written, but it was a good spot to "end" things. Broken Steel's silly continuation (and all the play balance issues that came from the level cap increase, more perks, and the "harder" monsters) really brought the game down. I don't bother installing the DLC anymore when I play FO3 - the game's better without them.

But yeah... Oblivion and FO3, while having some flaws, were good games.

Fallout 3's VATS was a successor to the ability to shoot specific body parts in the turn-based combat system of Fallout and Fallout 2. So, no Elder Scrolls game will ever have that. Don't worry.

Gstaff sent the questions in yesterday. Patience is a virtue, and Beth has more important things to do (like, say, making Skyrim) than answering questions as soon as they are submitted. Next week, at the earliest, would be my guess.

Still, it would be awesome to target specific body parts in an RPG and have them affect the NPC. I know this won't happen in Skyrim, but in future RPG's I'd love to be able to target a leg and break it with a Dwemer hammer but not kill the guy, then have him hobble around the rest of the game with a limp.

I understand the OP's fears here, they're my own as well, but I think why you could call Oblivion a botched job are for different reasons than what you're bringing up about Skyrim. The skills they've eliminated were relatively unused or unnecessary by gamers and for immersion purposes. I was a little frustrated about the loss of Mysticism, but they ARE replacing it with enchanting. It'll be alright, I'm sure! Just gotta have a little faith :)

In Fallout 3 and NV, you don't have to use VATs to target specific body parts (head, arms, legs, torso) . . . that is just part of localized damage. So it would seem like this would be a pretty easy thing to include in Skyrim.

Dude, where have you been? It's as if you've just found out about Skyrim and it's changes and just started complaining now. Do some research before you complain, please. You'll actually be suprised on how much of a step up Skyrim is from Oblivion. (Like how it's been confirmed for months that the level scaling in Skyrim is like Fallout 3.)

Again, Google is your friend.

AND all (or most) spells from Mysticism are being shifted to other schools of magic. So, we are only losing the "Mysticism" name.

Sir, if I go to your clinic with a burn on my arm and you reach for a wheel of brie rather than a medicinal ointment I will be very upset with you.

No, I'm sorry, when I think of magic potions, I do not think of mashing up cheese in a mortar and pestle -- which, by the way, will not result in anything you could pour into a bottle. It will just give you a messy mortar and pestle. If you added some cilantro, onion, jalapeno, onion, and avocado, then maybe you could use your finely-tuned alchemical sense to make me a snack, and with the new cooking system it should be easy to make some tortilla chips. Anyway, the typical image of alchemical shenanigans is that of a fashion-challenged pointy-eared geek mixing together bubbling concoctions in a magical laboratory, not some guy deciding to sit down in the wilderness and break out the bunsen burner, oblivious to wind, weather, and abundant contaminants. Necessitating a laboratory makes it more special to me, and again, distinct from just casting spells in that it requires preparation ahead of time.

I love this guy.

I love him too.
