I am currently playing Witcher 2 and it's fairly good for what it is, a story driven and linear action-adventure. It's not that good as the reviews say though, at least for a Tes player it has some major flaws: stealth is useless and limited roaming. From Skyrim I have bigger hopes for world simulation: freedom, exploration, and last but not least, hunting simulation. Yes, I'll be playing as a hunter, keeper of natural balance.

Interesting. I had the exact opposite reaction when I got to play the first "levels" in Witcher 2.

It suffers heavily from what I call cutscene-contagion: I'd say about 75% of what I have seen are dialogues and cutscenes, and I don't play games to press a button once in a while to make the movie continue. And the 25% you get to actually do stuff are not that interesting either; you get another button to attack and a third one to cast magic. Naturally, I can't say much about the story after a few hours, but the game makes it incredibly hard to feel interested when you rarely get to actually do stuff.

Frankly, I don't think Witcher 2 stands a chance against Skyrim. But maybe that's just because I expect different things from a game than other people.

The Witcher 2 isn't all that great... There are alot of things that svck at the moment. There's no tutorial at all. The game doesn't teach you how to play at all. Only 16:9 Widescreen support no other monitors support. And i think Skyrim's graphics are alot better than Witcher's. Also Witcher is way too linear and that really svcks. Caves, mines, dungeons are way too dark and the only solution to this is a stupit potion that you can drink only when meditating and outside of combat which again really svcks. Not many side quests. Also what's with the Uber Scaling thing... Lol that one really svcks. Even on my BEAST PC uber scaling option in The witcher 2 makes my game run on pretty low FPS in the exchange of nearly not noticeable graphic change. I think Skyrim will be the better game and will have the higher score on reviews and at all.

TW2 is definitely a competitor for Skyrim. A worthy one. They have many differences of how they work as RPGs, but still competetive nonetheless.
This is good. Competition is very good. It pushes the ones involved to work harder and do better.

Lol I don't see that happening, Bethesda is a big player, much bigger than Witcher's, and Tes is a huge and well established franchise, the Witcher is just a newborn, a successful one for the PC market nonetheless, but Skyrim is going to be RPG of the year for the most important gaming communities and there is no surprise and no delaying needed here, trust me :tops:

I'm not so sure about that, just because it's established dosen't mean everyone looks at it with rose tinted glasses. On the contrary, The Witcher 2 probably shocked a lot of reviewers in a positive way, which may
affect their judgement.

Also, but this is from my point of view, Witcher 2 has the better design, graphics, setting and based on bethesdas earlier merits The Witcher 2 will probably also have a better story.
What Skyrim has going for it so far is the open world and character customization. Combat mechanics, interaction, and spells haven't been showed that much yet so I can't say which one will win there.

But I have no doubt that I will like both games.

From a "game design" standpoint TW2 fares pretty badly. It has become a bit of a no-no to have so many cut-scenes in a game. After all you aren't playing a movie. Most game designers since Half-Life have been trying to eliminate them and place the player in the action when a scene unfolds. TW2 doesn't seem to have much in the way of great gameplay. Just good immersion, great story and nice graphics. Which are all elements that make a good game but the most important of all is gameplay. When GOTY is judged it will, hopefully, be for gameplay not a nice story.

TW2 isn't even in the same league as Skyrim or the TES series yet. Maybe one day? I would bet most of you will be singing a different tune when Skyrim is released too. Graphics will beat the TW2. Not the textures but overall. When your standing on a mountain with this supposed dynamic snow system blowing a snow storm and it breaks and you see a sweeping vista, i'll hear you talk about The Witcher 2 then.

No vs threads :nono:

Also, while they may both be RPGs, they are both very different games. One game is based on a book series focusing on the story and choices, while the other focusing on exploration and large amounts of side-quests.

That said, Witcher 2 is very good. I finished it last weekend, and had a blast playing it.
