Obsidian Fail!

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:56 pm

I would like to begin by first stating that as I have been playing Fallout: New Vegas I have enjoyed it much, and love just about every aspect of the game thus far. That being, there is a small percentage with no-love. I am talking about ragdoll physics. And many of the physics that contribute to various things. First of all, when you kill someone and they go to the ground they almost appear to e superglued down. Hit them with the shovel all you like, but to no avail still in the same position. Sure, there's some nice blood effects but come on man! When you actually kill someone/something in the game as they are falling the physics looks superb, but why couldn't the developers just leave them kinda loose on the ground so that when someone dies on a slant they slide down, or you can knock their corpse off it?? So I ask you Obsidian, wheres the ragdoll? Can't you see I'm just a kid who wants to smash corpses around with a shovel?

Um... There are ragdoll physics. Use the Z key (or whatever controller button it is to grab) and you can pick up bodies and toss them around. Melee weapons (except for displace gloves and ballistic fists) don't have a lot of force behind them to move bodies.

I actually wish they had utilized this feature in the tutorial (I think it was in the tutorial part) where your temp companion says to hide the body and it simply fades to black and when it comes back the body is gone; should have made the player physically pick up the body and hide it.

Not sure what you mean. I see bodies falling/rolling down slopes all the time.

He just wants lighter ragdolls. Ones that behave like wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men.

They're not all that heavy as is... Nothing like Oblivion where even a rat's corpse feels like it weighs a metric-[censored]ton. I can pick up an intact corpse by the head and toss it around like it was a scarecrow.

If you are playing on the PC, there are improved ragdoll physics mods available.

Are you and I playing the same game? I just watched someone take a .308 round to the chest and fly about 20 feet back.

Only corpses you can't really throw around are things like Ghouls and the like, once they hit the deck they gain a couple of hundred pounds or somethig... :D

^^^^ Precisely what he said. However, I somehow was not aware you could pick up bodies so that should certainly be add fun. Also to clarify the animations of people when they get shot and initially fall are superb, and they can sometimes fall down cliffs. I was refering more to a dead body that has just fallen. Like in oblivion if you cast a spell near a dead body they go flying, that's what I would have liked to see. I guess since I'm ranting about minute things, I can also add the jumping animation is kinda lame...the whole left knee up thing can make landing look unatural and strange sometimes.

I play on xbox 360 because I have a mac, unfortunately. I was hoping the game would be mac available because of steam but oh well. So no console commands for me yet, anyways the game still kicks major ass to the third power.
