Preferred Difficulty

Post » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:45 am

About 20 years ago I would have said the harder the better. These days I use games to relax and as escapism, not to be challenged. I already have enough challenges in real life. So I usually go with normal or easy depending on the type of game. So far I've been with Normal in New Vegas.

Edit: Oh I also don't go hardcoe because I personally don't see the point in having that much realism in a game. I'll not begrudge those that want it though as that's what some people like.

I had started on normal with hardcoe disabled. I am a very casual gamer and even at this setting the game was just too difficult for me. I went ahead and reduced the difficulty to very easy and its now tolerable.

I tried it on normal to start with and found it too easy, so I started over on very hard with hardcoe mode enabled. I was still slaughtering deathclaws by lvl10 and took down vault 34 by lvl8.

I'm having fun and a good challenge on normal without hardcoe mode. I'm not HC simply because I've tried mods that added pretty much all those same features (hunger, thirst, sleep) in FO3 and it was just a chore and took away from actually playing the game.

I wholeheartedly agree. Still on my first play-through, on normal with hardcoe mode on. I really cant stand hardcoe mode because it takes me out of the game, when every five minutes I have to stop what I'm doing because my fictional character is hungry, thirsty, or needs to take a nap. So yeah... for me, hardcoe mode is simply a once and done kinda thing. Besides, I LIVE in the Arizona desert, and have a pretty good understanding of what the courier is going through... just without all the mutants, raiders, and abominations.

I am really pleased with hardcoe mode. People either seem to love it or hate it, but that's not a bad thing, it's optional after all. But I am so pleased that the developers took note that there are a fair proportion of RPGers who are really into realism/survival in RP games and included it in the release.

Oh its starting to rain... sounds so peacful...
Normal/HC, Normal for balance and HC for immersion.
I also play with crosshairs disabled, it DOES make it more challenging

I'm playing Normal with hardcoe Mode. Seems to be a good balance between challenging and immersive. Higher difficulties tend to have you unloading unrealistic amounts of lead at stuff. I'd rather have a slightly easier time of it than watch a raider take three .308 rounds to the head. Yeah, I'm more of an immersion freak.

Couldn't agree more. Normal wih hardcoe gives me a good balance. Just when you don't notice hardcoe mode....you walk into a room full of muties or gangsters and you can't just 'heal' yourself right away. It's not 'hard' by any means...but it's a fun challenge I guess.

I enjoy hardcoe mode, and I play on Normal so I can wear the clothes I like and not worry about defense quite as much. This makes battles fast and furious. Wearing a Bounty Hunter Duster on Normal means Cazzadores are still a very scary encounter despite how easily my grenade rifle blows them apart.

In my view, Normal is the perfect equilibrium between reward and challenge. On the topic of HC mode - albeit I understand why people play it and I respect that - I just don't share that opinion. It's the same with overly spicy food, why add the extra arduousness?

So far, Normal ain't broke so I don't fix it :fallout: .
