Yes, once you reach Novac the women in the registar office or whatever it is can sell you a room key for one hundred caps. If she is killed then get an idolized status in Novac, by doing quests, and then the man in the gift shop will give it you for free. Also, all the lockers, safes and cabinets are all safe except the wardrobe to the left on the bed (in the corner). That was posted on the Fallout: New Vegas wikia :) hope this helps :):)

I've been using the Abandoned Shack to the East of Goodsprings, storing stuff in the ammo box next to the repair bench. I don't like the idea of camping out in someone else's house and pretending it's mine so I took the Shack with it being close to Goodsprings and vacant. I guess the school would do kind of the same job but it doesn't have a bed.

I am pretty sure I used that container w/o any problems in over 30 hours.

I used the dumpster next to the general store now on my new character.

When I made this post, :) (thanks for linking) someone said they had stuff respawn in the school. Most people say its safe, so maybe for that one person, it was a bug, or differnet consoles respawn/don't respawn depending on what version you use.

For me, I am on the 360, and I am using the suit case in the trailer that is close by when you do the tuturial of camping and making things. So far it hasn't respawned. Also the 2 trash bins by the store in Goodsprins I use as well. Great location since the Mojave Drop Box is right beside it as well.

I used Victor's shack at the far end of Goodsprings early on in the game, it has a non radiated water source, 2 ammo boxes and a desk that are safe to store stuff in and a bed to sleep in. I have since upgraded to a room at the Novac motel lol.

Edit: Also Victor never enters the shack.

I started in the goodspings gas station and then graduated from there.

Moving stuff when you decide to uproot is a pain but having multiple companions makes it easier.

I'd recoment starting in goodsprings with Victor's shack or the gas station, i find the gas station easier as it is close to the fast travel point and equidistant from the doc and the shop where you'll be selling loot.

Graduate next to Novac if you want, (i skipped this stage) and then transplant to Vegas if you want.

If you're anything like me you'll end up with several storage safehouses or locations each stashed with aid items, weapons and ammo just so that wherever you are in the wasteland there's always a supply depot nearby :P

I was using a XXX Crate next to the workbench beside the General Store and it vanished completely. The entire crate with all my garbage :D Now I used the dumpsters on the other side of the General Store and they have worked for me for my entire game.

Or it moved back to its original starting point?

Nope. I wish. There were originally 3 XXX crates there and I noticed you could open them AND move them around which I thought was AWESOME! I grabbed the one off the top and drug it over to the workbench and stuck some junk in it. A few days later I came back to see if it was still there and it was. I was all like "This is freakin great! Movable permanent containers! I love you Fallout: New Vegas!" I was still a little nervous about using it though so I only stored extra junk I didn't really need in it. About a week of game time goes by and the crate vanished completely. I checked the other crates that were still there and it wasn't among them and now there were only two so it didn't reset to its original location. Only thing I can think of is it may have fallen through the ground into Radscorpion land or vanished.

Presidential Suite or Motel Room in Novac. Or the Brotherhood shelter with a nice abundant amount of beds and a neat work bench.

I can think of a few cases...

If you move an object across a cell boundary (easy to do when it's outside), it may get garbage collected into oblivion rather then being reset to its starting position.

My XXX crates moved tonight when I went to look for them. But they went from being piled beside the dumpsters to being back where they started on the far side of the General Store. Yet all my items were still inside even though they had been moved back.

(Or if you're on an XBox or PS3, garbage collection and cell reset may function differently.)
