Anyone agree that the level cap should +!

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 11:06 pm

I think the level cap is perfect.. but instead they shoulda made it take like 5x longer to level and make level 30 perks... theres no extra special level 30 perks.. if level 30 is the LAST level there should at least be some awsome perk choices for it.

Frankly with perks every ther level I'm constantly having to choose -which- perk I want. There's always something cool left behind. All those levels from 20 to 30 will allow me to rummage around and experiment. I finished on nrmal at 20 so didn't really get to mess around with the higher level perks. AT some point I willl. Messing with combinations right now and think I may have accidently had the good fortune of doing so with my first character who completed the MQ. I should have played a little longer but it was worth it. And now I can play around ;)

There's a mod that removes the level cap if you're on the PC.

The levelcap is fine. However, it could be tweaked to take a bit longer to reach it, increase the gaps between the levels.

I would definitely love this myself.

As for a level cap increase, I'll refer you to CEO of Valve Software, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5mxSNjf1lE, thoughts on this matter.

As long as you cannot outmax your character I am fine with the system. True RPG's are games where you have to make choices for char-building.

So, is "Swift Learner" a waste of a perk? I took it thinking the faster levels would be a bonus, but from what I'm reading it seems like I'll just hit the cap more quickly and then miss levelling up. Thoughts?

Yeah, pretty much. Same with perks that add skill points.

As said already, I'd much prefer a patch to slow down leveling, instead of increasing the level. I leveled very very rapidly until I was level 25 or so. It feels like I barely did anything to level this much, just defeated a lot of enemies and finished a lot of quests. XP is far too easy to get.

i've put about forty hours into this one character and i'm just about at the end of the main quest - and i've barely passed level 16. this is with near-constant questing and lots and lots of killing big angry things.

personally i think they should lower the level cap to 10, but that's just me.

The almost perfect perk broke the game. I wouldn't mind a little more points to put into my skills though..

Feel free to disagree with me, but I actually liked the perks at every level in Fallout 3. Mainly because at certain levels, there were just horrible perks which allowed be to double back and pick up a second good one from the previous set. With New Vegas, I still have to do the same thing, but with only half of the room, it doesn't really encourage me to try new ones.So as far as this topic goes, I have to say that the point goes to Fallout 3.

And yes... I know that I was off topic... I'm fine with the level cap. I'm only just past Ring-a-Ding-Ding in the main quest line, but I'm just under level18.

with the new DLCs i hope they just stick with some new gear and maybe a few new perks.........but not overboard with the perks. 30 levels is plenty and im still have left over skill points. with the comprehension perk there is no reason to set certain skills like medicine, science, or repair past 80 since you can use a magazine to get the extra 20 you might need for even the highest skill checks.

I would prefer longer levels to more levels. I've passed the period in my gaming life when I enjoy being a roving death machine.

Maybe a chance to move S.P.E.C.I.A.L. point and 5 skill points only if the cap got a boost. No more perks though, I had to plan what I wanted my character to be and there had to be perks that got left by the wayside that I intended to use.

Honestly, I think it would be best if they did away with level cap BUT gave us the option to not use some skill points per level and skip perks whenever we get them. That way those who want a god tier character can use all their points and take perks every chance they get and the rest can play it like the way it is now. In Fallout 3 all my characters always played the exact same way without fail, but in NV I'm on my 4th playthrough (though mostly sticking only to main quest) and each one has been drastically difference from your typical survivor who can make due with almost anything but is not an expert, your run and gun heavily armored soldier, your meek energy weapons user who doesn't like conflict, and my current sneaky sniper who uses subterfuge to get behind enemy lines.

You should be able to do most of the quests in the game w/ out hitting the max levels. Whether that means increasing the level or slowing the leveling process, I don’t think it matters.

They need to remedy the “nothing to strive for” syndrome that happens at higher lvls.

IMO, the game should feel as challenging at lvls 6-12 as it does at lvl 24-30.

I agree with all that prefer longer levels to more levels. Personally, I played FO3 and finished with a lot of the game unexplored, weapon schematics not found, etc but still at level 19.

Longer levels is a great idea because it can promote exploration and make the game more challenging (thus more rewarding). It would work better if the game had a rather difficult main quest (with slightly easier sidequests) because this would encourage the player to explore and complete side quests before continuing the main quest. Anything to discourage the player from running thru the main quest straight away ........ (personally I just avoid the main quest and go around exploring, but I think people would be more satisfied if more 'requirements' were in place for the main quests).

A perk to move a few SPECIAL points would be cool too. Same with the skill point thing - it would be interesting if you were able to re-allocate a few skill points at a time for every so much XP earned after level 30. So you'd have these pseudo-levels after 30 that enabled you to change your skills around (say to speech, for example) to something you didn't care about originally. Obviously it would be best if you could move just a few points for each level after 30, and not all at once. This would increase replay value and allow people to do things that they missed without having to start the game all over. It would also work with DLC pretty well too I think.

Personally with respect to levels skills and perks there are a lot of possibilities and room for change... not that I'm complaining at all, I love Fallout, but its cool to think what they could do with this game if they really want to improve it further.
