TIME scale factor in Skyrim?

Post » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:54 pm

Does anyone know how this will be (time scale factor) in Skyrim?

This issue probably did not deserve a thread, sorry, but I'm here on a pleasant discussion with my friends about this in RPG's in general and I like to know if anyone here can help me...

THANKS !!!!

Oblivion was 1:30, can't see why it won't be the same.

no need to be embarrassed I played it as well, and enjoyed it very much for a decent amount of time.

So... 1:60... (like Fallout 3, I believe)

It wouldn't be very realistic, if the time scale was 1:1 in Oblivion then you would be able to run across all of Cyrodill in 15 min. The game world would feel so small.

Are you sure? Skyrim default then will be faster (1 hour real time = 60 hours in game)... I like the time scale in fallout 3, not too boring and not too fast...

"set timescale to - sets the timescale, the ratio determining how fast game time moves relative to real time; the default setting is 30. For example, setting the timescale to 1 would cause one second to pass in game time for every second in real time."

No problem. It makes sense to slow it down anyway, maybe 1:15, the days and nights last longer, and we still have wait and sleep to move time forward when we want to, for example, find a shop open.

1:15 makes sense in The Witcher (I'm not sure about Dragon Age: Origins), given the way the story is presented to us and the fact that we have to meditate to make potions, level-up...

If in Skyrim, by default, will be 1:60, I believe I will adjust it by console then to something like 1:30 like in Fallout 3 or even 1:20...

This issue probably did not deserve a thread, sorry,

Actually there have been a few threads about this in the past. :)

Some people want it quick, that way in the time it takes to go from one place to another several in-game days have passed.
Some people want it slow (generally lining up with real time); either because it feels more realistic or it allows for more actions in one in-game day (especially with NPC schedules and what not).

I prefer the latter.

Yeah, seems very fast, 12 minutes of play from dawn to dusk.
@Komodo, do you have a link to confirm 1 minute = 1 hour?

i actually prefer a 1:1 scale because of my vamp characters. that gives me more things i can do before the sun rises. but what i would like to see is a slide bar (akin to the dificulty bar of oblivion) that you could set the day scale manually in game from. would be based on a 1:__ scale to where the the number you dial in on the bar would be placed in the blank making it where 1:30 would represent 1 real world hour would equal 30 in game hours.

Guess what? With Cyrodiil size in TES4 (esspecially knowing REAL size of Nirn, and Cyrodiil in particular), time scale should be about 1:400 to actually fit time consumption during travels
This way each 3-4 real minutes would be new day in game (just imagine how fast sun and moons should move)

Pay attention to scale that is showed in lower left corner (and do some quick math)
So either way it is unrealistic.

Nice calculations that you did there... 1:400 is REALLY FAST, LOL... :bolt:

But somehow 1:30 or 1:20 seems realistic to me (In Skyrim) for my type of gameplay. Not too boring and not too fast...

I wonder why they don't want it to be tunable
It really feels weird to me that time goes by even faster in-game than in real life.
Should be optional to be able to tune it to 1:1, 1:2, 1:10, 1:20, 1:30 to 1:50.

it's been 1:30 since Morrowind, i don't see why they'd change it now. i can see them maybe bumping it down to 1:20 to compensate for the dynamic lighting but 1:30 looks fine with that.

1:1 would have alot of issues with things like.... quests where you need to follow someone and see what they do during their normal day. Or, needing to wait "short" amounts of time (like, 15 minutes) for something to happen - that's not bad when 15 in-game minutes is only a couple, but it'd be painful at 1:1.

(1:1 would also be odd from the standpoint of..... let's say going through the main quest takes 40 hours of play. At 1:1, that means you could find out about the threat, solve all the complications, and Save The World in under three days. Not even enough time for news of the problem to be reported across Skyrim. Let alone enough time for civil wars to develop, etc.)

I liked Daggerfall's scale, whatever it was - seemed longer than those of the later games.
