Best weapon for Arcade?

Post » Thu Jul 22, 2010 4:43 pm

I'm wondering what would be the best weapon to give to Arcade. With other followers, it's easy- Cass is shotgun-optimized, Raul is good with cowboy guns so Trail carbine with SWC, Boone likes anything scoped, Lilly needs a big heavy club and Veronica wants the biggest DAM glove for punching things. But Arcade starts off with the biggest DAM non-unique one-hander in the game and doesn't seem to improve with better weapons. I may have gone over the top with the Plasma Caster I gave him, but he svcks with it. What's the good weapon?

I always give him the Q-35 Matter Modulator from RepConn and he's great with it. He's a quick draw and easily turned Benny into a green pile of goo when Benny drew on me. :)

(Heavy) Incinerator. Good companion weapon is a weapon with surplus ammo (in this case home made fuel).

I was wondering the same thing about Gannon. Plasma Defender is one of the better weapons in the game, and I'm not sure that even the Q-35 is much of an improvement since that takes real ammo to fire. I'm sure he'd be great with a Tri-beam laser, but companions tend to go through ammo very quickly. A gauss gun probably wouldn't be a bad choice for him though.

Most of the time, imo, he's one of the few that's best using his own default weapon, simply because it requires no ammo and already has a pretty high dps.

But if you want him to keep his distance more, one of the high dps and/or unique rifles is a better choice. If you can keep him supplied with the ammo, of course. So one tactic could be default weapon for a lot of the game but collect/buy the ammo and give him something better for the mid-late game.

I wanted a non-gauss rifle for him because I have all the others using rifle type weapons (using a multiple companion mod) and thus Arcade is always the one that walks out to take point and always the first one to fall/be attacked...it becomes annoying. His relatively low hit points don't help. :)

I gave him the unique (? is it? I've only seen one of 'em so far) gauss rifle you find on

some merc in a little gang up by the northern passage

anyway, he absolutely crushes with it, and from good long/medium range, too. About rivals Boone at not letting anything get close to us out in the open. With that and me using .308 AP rounds, we walked through hardened robots like they were soft cheese.

I always let them keep their stock guns, but Melee weapons are the msot worrisome for some of them. Like Boone. The [censored] tries to take out a nightkin with a pool-cue. It started out working, but he was eventually owned.

The GECK shows Arcade's base skills at 51 for Energy Weapons and 16 for Guns. HIs inventory has his default weapons, the Plasma Defender and a Ripper.

Is your Charisma high enough? It affects Companion Nerve, which gives a percentage bonus to Armor and Damage inflicted by a Follower ranging from +5 at CHA1 to +50 at CHA 10. That affects how effective they are. I found him very effective but I always go for high Charisma and Luck.
