Legion naturally hostile?

Post » Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:15 am

Allright, I wander into Nipton, talk to a few of the local Gangers, and then proceed to Town Hall. Where the Legion immediately goes axe-crazy on me.

Other than a possibly minor rep with NCR, I don't see any obvious reason for them to go after me. Even the Powder Gangers weren't hostile to me until I decided to help out Goodsprings!

So, reload, and use that nice Legionarre uniform so nicely given to me by the Devs in the house with the bark scorpions and the Grenade Rifle. Head Honcho there then gives me the "Cold, Cold heart" quest.

Funny thing is, I'm getting the sense that I should be able to get the quest without the armor, baised on his dialouge. Only thing that I can think of that may cause them to be hostile is that I have the "Booted" quest currently active. My guidebook, however, indicates that I should be able to waltz into the slave camp (and presumably the Legionarres at Town Hall) without causing a shootout.

Did my wonderful machine that manages to run Mothership Zeta without running into bugs finally reach it's first bug in NV? Or is this supposed to happen and it's just Dev oversight?

You didn't wear an NCR armor or powder ganger outfit when you first spoke to them right?

I completed Booted after my Sneak skill was 100. No one saw me and the Legion never turned hostile.

Earlier I walked into Nipton and received Cold Cold Heart without incident.

Maybe: Wear neutral armor. Show no weapons. Talk to no one.

I'm guessing not talking to the legion and trying to enter the townhall may have been what triggered the hostilities.

Deny everything. Make counter accusations.

I've done this and they didn't attack me.

The exact same happened to me.

It's from wearing faction armour which failed to get removed when I took it off.

1. Load up an earlier save before Nipton.

2. Put on the same faction armour you wore previously ( most likely NCR ).

3. Remove it again.

4. Drop it from inventory. ( you can pick it after if you like ).

I tried fixing it with legion armour but that failed to work.

I managed to sneak into the town hall and clear it before chatting with Inculta. I tried to sneak out, but he walks right up and begins the conversation. I wasted a perfectly good stealthboy. So my guess is also faction armor. Easy to forget you have it on if you are in First Person View.

Hm... thanks for the tip. Didn't realize faction armor can get "stuck." (I was wearing metal armor that I got from some Jackals at the time.) Last armor I wore was NCR Masked Armor- that's probably what did it.

I found out that the Legion there will also get pissed if you interfere with the crucified people before they leave. I usually shoot the poor bastards before I leave Nipton.

I've messed with those poor saps before and the Legion didn't care, however they are known to turn hostile in some cases when you cut down crucified victims, so something may have gotten crossed up and set them off.

Thanks for the advice- the NCR armor was, indeed, "Stuck" on my character. Simple re-equip and de-equip worked like a charm.

And I think "messing around with the guys on the crosses" means "doing anything other than inspecting them."

The legion at the Fort didn't care when I mercy killed the crucified trooper. Though that guy may be out of sight of the guys at the gate.

I killed them all (the crucified persons) after talking to Vulpa but while the Legion were still present and they did not hostile me, some of them were still looking at me when I killed the first couple.

Maybe if you kill them before talking to Inculta?
