Show me the Trophy

Post » Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:06 pm

Do you know the feeling - you've come home from a hard week of slaughtering - you're burdened down with exotic weapons and armors, you wander into your house and dump them into a chest. You could try to place some strategically on furniture but it would probably take you another week to get them positioned right - even worse no one comes into your house and even notices your awesome trophies.

Seems to me that we go to all this effort to collect loot but there seems something missing after that

I'm kinda hoping this time round in Skyrim we might get some place where we can display our unique weapons and armor and that NPC's could go there and comment on them - an update on the Mournhold Museum but Skyrim style.

It would be good if the homes we can buy this time round actually would display some items or have some manikins to dress up

I know the devs are implementing many of the favourite mod ideas and I wonder if displaying your trophies would be one of them?

Beths did this in the SI, so why not?

Never understood it myself, really. If it can't fetch a nice price at the nearest shop - why pick it up at all?

Maybe, but imagine the debates:

Me: "Woah. You killed____??? How'd you do it?? My underdeveloped low-leveled self cannot comprehend this turn of events."
You: "...You know what? You svck, you Son-of-a-Daedra!"

the Fable Series did this idea, but it could possibly find its way into Skyrim by other means, though.

Since it's almost a given that we'll end up with piles of unique and interesting stuff, why can't we run a museum? Let's talk real player housing here- you run into an NPC desperate because he's sunk all his money into a failure by converting a sizable tavern into a museum setting- without ever thinking about the fact that he's no adventurer to go get things to fill it with, and is now too broke to buy anything for display. It never occurred to him that adventurers who had risked their lives wouldn't be just itching to hand things over for nothing, and now he's stuck with this white elephant of a huge unmanageable piece of property he needs to get rid of. :)

For whom exactly? There is no online scoreboard, there is no multiplayer. What's the point?

Yes. Yes. Yes. We need to be able to become curators of a museum.

I'm optimistic that they'll include armor mannequins and armor racks(for display) this time around. Armor mannequins was one of the most popular mods as far back as Morrowind, so it was surprising to me that they weren't included in Oblivion. However, unless you donate your loot to a museum ala Tribunal, I don't think it's practical for NPCs to view and comment on your stuff that you store in your home.

I would also like to see taxidermy done in some way. In Gothic II- my second favorite game after MW- you could learn skills to harvest trophies from various creatures. It added another level to the game that was really fun.

How quaint. Good thing I don't have to remind myself of my achievements, in-game or otherwise, to feel better.

I think I should drop that topic. I appreciate your opinion on the matter and I'm sorry I don't understand it.

There are no items that expensive in the vanilla game. If you modded them in - there are also mods with better traders available.

People in this thread have never heard of Roleplaying and that other folks may have an opinion that is different than their own. I agree with OP and don't understand the people that are so negative against him/her.

By the end of the game I always have a house/museum filled with Tamriel's artifacts. I wouldn't mind if visitors came by but I'd like to charge them a septim or two to get in, a hero has to eat ya know.

Thanks Bebbe - nice support :)

The topic is for role players who don't like selling absolutely everything they have fought for and would like to have some way to display the best items - with the option of still being able to use them.

I like the idea of the quest to run your own museum - though I would be just as happy if there were some artisans in the game who would sculpt something based on how many items you brought them - something that showed you being heroic for a change and that captured a key moment of the game - if i could swap all my loot for a statue of my character bringing down a dragon I'd be pretty happy :)

After all what's the point of being a hero if there is nothing left behind to immortalize your character...

Big support for the OP!
It was nice that there were mods for displaying items, but the vanilla game should have this. Either having another Museum of Artifacts (Mournhold status), or some proper displays for my goods. One of the first things I modded into Oblivion was my own Display Case for the Ayleid Statues. Why does Umbacano get one in his house, but I have to spend hours lining mine up on the mantle!?! Weapon racks and mannequins work for me.

Now wait a minute. I do not roleplay (period) if I don't hoard things? Amazing.
