Now i hope spells are cooler and more varied

Post » Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:24 pm

in Oblivion most spells are just "shoot fireball/thunder/ice/shiny gas things" from your hands. or use spells on yourself. with no spellmaking i hope the spells are more varied. for example i heard fire spell can works in 3 ways.
1. just push the spell trigger then it shoot fireball like in oblivion
2.hold the trigger button and it'll work like flamethrower
3. equip 2 fire spells in both hand and you got large fireball (like the explosion in the trailer?)

i hope those spell usage are really in the game.

and for ice spells it could be like usual (frostball thingy) and there are variety like if you shoot the ground there would be ice spikes coming out of it or you can create small blizzard with stronger version of frost spells.

and has anyone seen bioshock infinite trailer? where the women create mini thundercloud/storm and it shoot bolts to enemies? it'd be awesome if some variety of electric spells are like that.

maybe spell growth will be controlled via perks or they will implement new mechanic.

It's been confirmed since early Jan that with spells, you can equip them to each hand (You can dual wield them.) You may hold the button for a flamethrower, place a rune on the ground for a trap, or combine 2 spells at once.

Go to the GI website for more info.

I wonder how the touch/target/self attribute of the spell will be determined...

I've heard some cool stuff concerning spells- for example, there are spells that you place on the ground and they react when an NPC walks over them. Not to mention stuff like teleportation. It looks like we've got all sorts of new variations.

and i hope telekinesis now works like bioshock / gravity gun from half-life. you pick up object, then throw it to enemies.

yeah, i really wish to pick up stones and throw it to enemies aiming arrow to us to cancel the aim, giving us more time to approach them and deal the final blow ( assuming you are sword/blunt/hand to hand use)

Fortunately for us Bethesda brutally pushes forward with a better game even in spite of the nay sayers. Realizing the majority are being illogical and once they actually try what they make they'll enjoy it, seriously the avrage person played oblivion for 100 hours and that had loads of mistakes which were tested and will be improved upon, but overall it was a huge success

Telekenesis runes...

Instant nerdgasm! I would LOVE to see an enemy walk into the trap and just float there helplessly while you play target practice with a bow and arrow.

First enemy I encounter I'm going to dual wield lightning, Emperor Palpatine style.

Also, if you look at the trailer you can see the nord using what appears to be a fire spell that bursts around him, so I think it's safe to say we'll have spells with burst effects.

It would be amazing if the quick tap telekinesis spell acted like a kind of force push on enemies, knocking them of balance... and holding the left bumper (on 360) would pick up the object and the left trigger would fling it...

You should change the name of the thread into it being about speculating on the spell types etc. as it is a good topic for discussion which won't be plagued by the usual sceptics complaining about the simplification of the series and the fact that attributes are gone...
