Joining the BoS

Post » Tue Aug 03, 2010 6:27 pm

New question:

I've just made my way to the Strip for the first time. To cut a long story short, I've retrieved the platinum chip. Now I'm faced with a couple of options. I don't want to side with Yes Man, because I wouldn't want control over the strip. I'm not sure what options Mr.House will give me when I return the chip to him, however he seems worthy of utilising its power.

I was also approached by the Legion, I certainly don't want to help them out. Is it possible if I gave the chip's powers to the NCR or the Brotherhood? What should I do (without it being too spoilerish). Cheers.

There is no downside to joining the BOS, the NCR does not become hostile, nor does their reputation with you change in any way...your work with them will be secret to the NCR. You'll get a suit of the T51b if you join and the training to wear it. Plus the full inventory of the armory will become available to buy.

I'm pretty sure the NCR will attack you on sight if you are wearing BoS armor though...

The armor they give you is not faction armor though, so you'll be able to wear it without repercussions.

I see, thanks.

Also, is there an option to join the NCR later on in the game? If yes, being with the BoS won't have any effect? Cheers. :)

No joining no, working with / for yes.

You'll get access to the NCR safe house and a load of quests and resolutions open up with ( NCR ) or ( NCR rep ) which gives you knew dialogue or resolutions without hard work or speech checks.
That and most / all NCR faction members treat you like a ranking officer in passing dialogue.

Also up untill the last few main quests all factions can be neutral - idolised depending on your actions.

Ah thanks! Guess I'll join the BoS then! ^_^

EDIT:

I might as well ask this here, no need to create a new thread.

the chip only works for yes man and mr. house. you can do parts of the quest for both and not join them but be careful at some point you will join them.

Unfortunately, you cannot give the chip's power to the BoS, only Yes Man and House can take advantage of what it does. Nor, for whatever reason, can you tell the BoS about the Securitron Bunker or give them back HELIOS-1. The first time I joined the BoS I was really hoping for an option to do the latter activity, especially after McNamara told me that Hardin was interested in doing just that, since I had already talked to the NCR guards at the place and found out the BoS had been the original holders thereof.

Then again, I suppose that would be counter to their stated intent of not drawing unwanted attention to themselves, although that in turn runs counter to the ending dialogue if you do the NCR path and have the BoS ally with them for the battle at the dam.

oh, the chip is also used for ceasar's legion, where you destroy a specefic area that requires a specific platinum chip to specifically, ironically, help you.

Cheers for the advice guys.

I joined up with the BoS, and I've been doing more quests for the NCR. I used the chip to upgrade the Securitrons for House under the Legion camp.

I've also managed to convince the Papa of the Khans to remove their allegiance with the Legion. He listened (after convincing his subordinates). The problem is that when I go back to the woman colonel in the NCR Dam area, she tells me she's pleased to know that 'the Khans have been destroyed'. What?? I didn't destroy them, in fact I helped them out! :S

It's a glitch in the quest script, no matter what you do it thinks the Khans are destroyed. Now, if you get them to ally with the NCR then Colonel Moore should acknowledge it, however I always tell them to get out of Dodge because if you go the alliance route a handful of them kamikaze themselves during Second Hoover Dam and I consider that a waste.

If I continue this way (i.e. Moore thinks I destroyed the Khans), will the ending slides be buggered? Can I fix this through a console command?

If u choose to wear power armour after joining BoS (other ways to get power armour training but not spoiling), Then i suggest getting the jury rigging perk and farming harowits farm for metal armours(most times there will be someone wearing metal armour) to fix the power armour up to max.

The ending slides will reflect the actual results of the negotiations with the Khans, so you'll be fine.

Well I finished the game, but I've got a question.

I did not get any slides at the end telling me what happened to the Legion. I didn't fight the Legate, I used my speech skill and he retreated. I am also unsure as to why the game ended there, why the NCR didn't drive forward and attack the Fort, with Caeser in it. I do realise that the Dam is the most important area, however this way (letting them go) the Legion can (and will) come back again in the future. Right?

Heh, seems pretty funny all I had to do was say a couple of sentences to thwart their plans.
