some love for new vegas

i just feel like venting some of the positive stuff i have to say about this excellent game :celebration:

i played fallout 2 back in the day (fallout 1 for some reason never worked on my computer :brokencomputer: ) and i feel like new vegas really captures the spirit of that old game better than fallout 3 ever did.

fallout 3 was incredible, but it played it too straight, too serious. the main storyline was tepid - an almighty quest, to scour the radioactive wastes and ultimately ... pour some water through a brita filter. also, the brotherhood of steel were ...

aside from the plot, every one of the games basic gameplay mechanics has been improved. gunplay, speech checks, repairing items, levelling up and gaining perks, all the things that actually make up the game.

the less tangible things like the atmosphere are just as good as FO:3. the mojave desert is a strange mix of decrepid and resurrected buildings. seeing how far the people have come, and yet how far they still have to go, it's just as bleak and chilling as Fo:3 ever was.

when i try to think of problems with F:NV i come up with this - the beginning is a bit linear, and you can't remap the "2" button. nothing else annoys me. After playing morrowind, oblivion and FO:3, it's gonna take alot more than a few measly bugs to put me off this game. any problems i've run into have been solved by loading back a short distance. saving six times a second is a given in these games. if people haven't learned this from previous bethesda games then they really need to turn their brains on!

so overall, excellent game. and hardcoe mode is a great little addition for us roleplaying types ^_^
