No athletics and acrobatics.

It is a widely held belief and one that I foster as well that with the scrapping of athletics and acrobatics we will at least have perks to regulate those attributes.
But do we have any proof for that except someone saying to some interviewer 'that it is all still there'?

I for one am imagining a fallout type map where even if you do find a pass where the allmighty developer has been careless and you do yay a way through, woops, invisible barrier.
Especially when they said 'the mountains make the map so much bigger'.

Well I do not want that.
I do not want to be told I have to go a mile north, find a passage south and go another mile while all the way its just a jump to the left.
I feel this is lazy word design, not exciting.

I want a game that is my game. Where I decide how to travel from a to b. I do not want a game where I have to take the path some (no doubt nice) guy behind a desk thought I should go. That way he is my dungeon master. And I want to be master of my TES.

Closed cities, no word on jump or levitation, talk of 'the world being so much larger cause of the mountains you have to traverse', all that makes me think of mario and zelda type world levelling.
I dont care things look so much nicer now. A square divided into a maze like path is still a stupid pre-set route even if it is all 3d these days.

Anyone have thoughts?

I don't have the answer unfortunately, but there's been some good discussions on this. Maybe you can find something in one of these threads.

No problem. What do you mean "no word on jump or levitation"?

I mean no one said if its out or in.
People have said that acrobatics and athletics are out and walled cells are in, and, well, just look at my signature.
That is very boring.
Im not a great fan of the 'oh there will be perks for that' Proof please.
My idea the road of least resistance is fallout style, meaning an annoying map with insurmountable objects.

A zelda map. Not a TES map.
An adventure game map, not a TES RPG map.
I want to go the way I decide. I do not want to follow a path set out by a man behind a pc a few months ago who goes: And here Ill put some enemies, and there a lootable plant..
I dont care.
This is my game. I want to jump, I want to fly, I want to sneak, I want to climb.
I do not want to face mandatory geckos cause someone thought that would be the right idea just about now.

Jumping as in being able to jump on roofs and boost your jump abilities such as we expect from a TES game?

Or jumping mario brothers style where if you cant jump that ledge the first level you never will be able to?

( signature = "While Im running around for no reason I always think: I wish this was a TES game, so I would at least get athletics xp.
Well thats gone :( Just like any other game I can now gloriously run around while nothing interesting happens. ")

Yea, that i'm not sure about. All I know is that we can still jump. Whether it will be like Mario where it's always the same height isn't confirmed. I would have a hard time believing everyone will always have the same jump height. If nothing else, I expect at least different jump heights amongst the races.

I sure hope so. Bosmer should jump higher than Orcs at lvl one, even without attributes.

Besides, I have been playing fallout to pass the time till Skyrim and one thing that singularly annoys me is the way I cannot travel as I wish.
Im fine with not being able to jump or climb or fly a mountain yet.
Im not fine with not being able to, ever.
I do really really hate trying to go somewhere and in Oblivion always circling those darn unclimbable slopes and in Fallout always finding a barrier.

Nevermind Oblivion gates.
That is Exactly what I mean by using obstacles as a way to increase apparent size, but actually equalling bad level design.

Barriers that we cannot overcome due to only one jump height would indeed be cringe worthy. With levitation not in, there has to be different jumping variables. I truly believe they will be race related and maybe perk related. Maybe perks within the sneak skill?

Athletics I think will be race related and also tied to the stamina stat, so i'm not worried about that.

I do hope so.
I want to see areas only the most agile can get to. Just as I want to see some monsters only a warrior can easily defeat.
There is no point in having every character being able to do all the same things.

If only they could make games like that with the tech today, instead of every time it looks prettier there is less you can do.

THIS

Also. Try turning off collisions?? TCL in console iirc. (for OB. not fallout.) you might think it cheating, but what do you call invisible walls? Isn't that the devs cheating?

I play on console :(
I actually bought my 360 especially for Oblivion and was only able to do so now this generation has gone down in price.
There is simply no way I could afford to keep an up to date pc rig.
I wish I could cause I would so love to mod all quest xp rewards out of New Vegas to make levelling not too fast, for instance.

But I cant.
So for me it is very important that the vanilla edition is as perfect as can be from the get go.
