After months and months of hearing of this book called "The Infernal City" and it being a novel about TES I am finally going to take some free time I have to go out and buy the book. I was just wondering if this is written by someone at gamesas that helped make TES or if it's just some random writer they hired. Also I was wondering if this book and the next book "Lord of Souls" will help me bridge the gap between Oblivion and Skyrim.

BTW or PS when is "Lord of Souls" coming because the shop I am going to doesn't have it yet but it is available for pre-order.

As for bridging the story: not really. I read Infernal City and it has nothing to do with what Bethesda has told us about Skyrim.


Infernal City was mediocre at best, and very forgettable. I wouldn't recommend getting it.

I think the Infernal City was just a "Warp in the West", of sorts. A way to tie up the loose ends from Morrowind and provide an indisputable canon for Skyrim. Not so much Oblivion, since everything really only had one outcome.

I liked it, though I can see why you wouldn't. I was mostly just think "omg omg TES book TES book!!1!11!11"

The author over used the lore A LOT in the book, so it was very confusing and....just not that good

He used the lore as a weapon, beating the poor captive reader over the head with it relentlessly.

It read like...well...about like one could reasonably expect any marketing-tie-in novel based on a videogame series, to be brutal about it. :shrug:

There's nothing wrong with the story of TIC. The writing could be better, yes, but the concept and additions to the lore are good.

Lord of Souls will be the actual "second half" of the story, anyway, so trying to judge TIC on it's own is a worthless review. It's kinda dumb to have it made that way, but it's how they've chosen to market it.

And as for the OP, just read the excerpt on the web to get an idea about it, or get it for 3 bucks at a used book store. Or go to a big library and see if they have it yet. Point being: judge it for yourself, because people have very different opinions about it.

I think The Infernal City was really good, and I feel like I know the Black Marsh a lot better now, and there was some pieces of lore that I had not read about before, so it was very rewarding as well. And you can't really say anything about the story as a whole yet, as the story isn't done yet. Lord of Souls will finish the story.
