Wheel of Fortune, can't pick the lock

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:59 pm

Hi everyone, need a bit of help closing this quest.

I'm doing the quest for the scavengers in Camp Searchlight. They send me to a cave near Nipton to fetch radiation suits but (brilliantly) the door is locked and requires 50 skill to pick. I don't have a high enough lockpick skill and I have no intention of raising it. I thought they might accept any radiation suits so I took them three I bought but they don't. There must be another way into the cave because you can't close the quest otherwise. There is usually more than one way to get what you need, either pick a lock, hack a terminal or steal a key. There must be some other way to complete it otherwise not only do I miss out on the quest I can't complete the quest and can't get rid of it from my journal. That's frustrating as hell.

All the guides and comments I've read say you have to pick it, but is there another way? Is there a legion patrol somewhere where a guy has the key or something?

Thanks.

Nope, there's no key that I know of.
Also, what's your lockpick skill, there are a few ways to raise it.

Pop them in the head and take the keys.

Spoiler
They're going to try to kill you anyway

You choose not to raise your lockpick you have to live with the consequences, you might be able to each fifty by taking some meds that raise perception, wearing the utility jump suit and using a locksmith magazine but if not your stuck and its 100% your fault.

If you're not going to raise your Lockpick to 50, then I'm curious to know What are you using your acquired Skill points for each time you level up?

Science, sneak, speech and a couple of combat skills. I purposely stay away from lockpick because I find the game levels too quickly which I don't like and you get way too much XP for it (I try to mimimise my use of speech and science also) and there's too much loot so not being able to pick locks makes it more challenging in that regard, since up to now that's all the lockpick skill was for, getting more loot.

In the end you can max nearly 7 skills. I have 100 Lockpick, Medicine, Guns, Speech, Repair and Barter. I have 51 Survival, but that's because I dumped a few points (probably almost 40) into other skills.

To actually answer the OP's question.

If you can't pick the lock, then you'll have to kill them to get the keys. That will fail the quest however.

But you still get access to the locations that will, otherwise, remain locked.

I should heave been more specific.

If you can't pick the lock for the case, then the only way to end the quest is killing the three guys that gave you the quest. However, you will still be able to access the locations involved in the quest (The Police Station and Fire Station), as the main guy has the keys for those places on his body. So you won't be missing out on the unique Fire Axe "Knock Knock" or the rare Firefighter Helmets.
