Faction Companion

I love this game so very very hard but I feel its odd that only the NCR gives you a follower for being on good terms. Wouldn’t other factions also provide protection? After all they would either support you because you’re a member (Caesar’s Legion) or an investment (Mr. Hose). So the legion would also provide support for a fellow legion soldier and Mr. House would want to protect a key component in his plans right? So here’s a plea for support on the forums and to Bethesda/Obsidian. If it were change were almost all factions provide support then the party would be composed of: Courier, Humanoid Companion, Non-humanoid Companion, Faction Companion.

For balance reasons you cannot have more then on Faction Companion (FC) at any time. Also if you repeatedly use a FC that belongs to one of your accepted faction enemies over time they will notice just like doing missions for that rival faction. Below I’m providing examples of what I think the FC’s could be for each faction.

Boomers: Boomer soldier armed with Grenade Launcher

Brotherhood of Steel: Paladin in T45 armor armed with a Tri Laser or a melee Paladin with a super sledge

Caesar’s Legion: Legion Recruit in recruit armor wielding machete or Legion Explorer in Explorer Armor armed with spears or maybe a hunting rifle.

Crimson Caravan: Caravan Guard in leather armor wielding a caravan shotgun

Powder Gangers: Powder Ganger in Powder Guard armor wielding dynamite. He would only chuck grenades so he would be weak up close.

Mr. House/Yes Man: Yes Securitron or Potectron.

King’s: King Member armed with .357 or a melee King with an unarmed weapon.

Gun Runners: Gun Runner Guard with a submachine gun or grenade rifle

Jacobstown: Super Mutant with a assault carbine or a Nightkin that will occasionally go into stealth and attack with a bumper sword

Silver Rush: Guard with Plasma Rifle or a Guard with a Laser RCW

Nice thouight, but a few of those choices would be unable or unwiling to follow you into town. The Boomers and Brotherhood are hardcoe isolationists who look down upon outsiders. Powder Gangers and Van Graffs are NCR criminals, though admittedly, the Van Graffs are more 'legitimate'. Crimson Caravan Company and Gun Runner guards would be too busy guarding actual caravans. The Kings already provide protection, but only in Freeside if you join, otherwise they would be out of their depth. As for Jacobstown, you already have a super mutant companion. Two would be overkill and draw too much attention to them, which they're specifuically avoiding.

However, Caesar and House really should be providing you some protection since you're doing all their dirty work. Imagine Victor as a fulltime companion. A legionary would be tricky since you can't really take him anywhere publuc, but a Frumentarii (Legion spy) in a Western outfit might be a good choice.

tbh i'm not too fond of the followers, that freakin dog i had always ran ahead and attracked enemies even when i told him to stay back and not attack till I did. after many deaths I just said screw it and let him die. arcade ganon kept disapearing on me and seemed like trash. he died in a fire fight and I did not care. Cass I found annoying for many reason and I was overjoyed when I gave her up at the Van Graffes. Though I have Lily atm and like her.
