FO New Vegas

I have locked that wacko of a chef away and I have the recipe, but not the survival nor the intelligence needed to prepare the meal.

Intelligence 6 is required. Then I have swallowed a mentat and now my intel is 7.

Problem is: I still can't cook.

What is the purpose of these mentats anyway, if they don't achieve what they are suppose to?

The fun of an elaborate RPG is solving the questions your own way. I was all "he he he, but I have mentats here", and now I'm posting this with a meh expression on my face.

BIG let down!

Well, is there another way to cook this... thing?

Huh, i thought i used mentats in order to raise my intelligence and it worked.
If you have any Med-X you can drug the wine which I believe is in the next room.

It worked? Strange, here it doesn't.

I need to have Medicine 25 in order to drug the wine... :(

well I believe that it SHOULD be working so you could slightly cheat if you want.
open up the console and click on yourself and type:
setav survival 75
then cook the food. afterwards set your survival skill back to whatever it was

Or if you want you could just ignore tricking everyone and just get Ted out of there. Not the best solution but if nothing else works...

I hate cheating, but that was the best solution after all. Otherwise I would have had to play Rambo again -- and one of the differentials of a game like New Vegas is that most times you can avoid it if you want.

I had to exit and re-run my game after that since I heard that cheating on the Steam version disables the achievements for that play session...

Thanks a bunch for the tip.

edit: typo.

No, No, NO! Never, ever use 'SET'

SET permanently disables automatic increases during level-up. Always use 'MOD'

Either go to third person, select your PC and then type modav survival or you can just type player.modav survival These commands will ADD the amount specified to your current score. (You can see what this is by typing getav .)

I have no experience using these to lower a stat. You could use the command player.forceav which will set the stat at that specific number. I have no experience with this command, either. Remember, after doing this, save your game and then quit and reload, or you will disable achievements for the rest of your session.

I don't see any reason to set it back to its original anyway.

Well, is it too late then? I already used it...

About reverting to the original stat, there is a reason: if the modified one remains, it would be cheating... ;)

In your case you are not using a derived stat so it isn't too bad. If it is a Tag Skill you should keep an eye on it. Likewise if it's affected by any earned perks. You could try forceav or modav with a negative number (I've never tried that.)

Oblivion has subtly changed the way some of the console commands work.

I can see that. :spotted owl:
