Amazing Gun!

Post » Thu Sep 16, 2010 4:21 pm

So i just got the game for Christmas and i'm not that far but I did just get This Machine. That gun is amazing! I prefer to use rifles in the game and this one has really good damage and DPS. I'm also into WWII so i really like that it's kinda designed off of an M1 Garand. What do you guys think?

One of my faves, yes. Although the ping noise occasionally gets on my nerves. :D

Never used it tbh.
Only got it once, most likely due to the bug.
When I did get it, it was not suitable for the role I had at the time.

So I checked it out, noticed it had no house for the ammo clip, got sad shot a bit and loved the sound effects.
When I make a soilder build I'll gve it a proper whirll, but unique guns are not my thing tbh again.

I don't really mind unique guns. The only thing that makes them different is when you repair them. But you can always make repair kits or get the jusry-rigging perk. I plan on getting that perk soon (just gotta get my repair skill up a bit). That's what i do for unique weapons.

Yeah I agree.
I just have a personal phobia about them, except for melee or unarmed, plain o' guns, are my favourites.

Dont really like it TBH. I prefer the brush gun or trail carbine for my medium range rifle shooting, AMR for long range sniping, and ranger sequoia for close range fights (sequoia has good enough accuracy for medium range shooting as well).

Dun worry its k. Same thing happened to me when I turned him in too. Though some unique guns I do not mind like the All-American but I have my limits with unique weapons as they make the game a little easier but that's my opinion.

Not True Unique guns have a few things that make them different, most if not all have a different skin on them, and they all have different state changes for example The ".44 Magnum" stats Str. 3-5, Weight 3.5, Health 250, Value 2,500, Dam 36, C. Dam 36, Min. Spread 0.7, Act. Points 28, Compared to The ".44 Magnum: Mysterious Magnum" Str. 4-6, Weight 4, Health 150, Value 3,200, Dam 42, C. Dam 42, Min Spread 0.5, Act. Points 25. plus it makes the coolest sound in the game when you take it out or put it away, sounds like something from Clint Eastwood's Man with no name series. but for "This Machine" and "That Gun" you are right.

I like that weapon, but what I don't like is going through (what I consider to be) bull[censored] to get it.

I [censored] detest walking across McCarran so much. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. It's [censored] [censored].

It's a nice rifle, that's for sure, but I feel like I'm getting teeth pulled when I have to do that quest.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the playing errand boy in any quests. I much prefer quests that require the one-man-army role.

The ping noise is accurate. It is the strip clip popping out. My grandfather told me how they would carry used strip clips and occassionally use their fingers to "pop" them to make the noise. They did this to fool German soldiers into thinking they were out of ammo.

After about 300 hours of playing, my fav is now a fully modded hunting rifle. Great for sniping, good damage (great with JSP), "feels" and looks right. It is also what I would want as a survivalist.

Mostly accurate. The en-bloc clip (s'not stripper clip, that's something different) on the M1 holds 8 .30-06 cartridges together and is fed "en-bloc" into the rifle magazine. It is held in place by a latch that, when the last round is fired from the weapon and the bolt locks back, is released by the magazine follower and is propelled out of the rifle by the follower spring. That lovely ping noise is made only when the weapon is empty and the en-bloc clip is ejected. Josh said they were limited by the engine mechanics and it was not worth reworking the reload mechanics for just one weapon so the "ping" occurs when the last round is fired. Instead they tagged it to the reload function. It occurs at the beginning of the reload fuction, and if you fire all the rounds from the rifle and allow the game to auto-reload the weapon for you, it occurs at the correct time. But it also will occur any time you hit the reload button, which is not how the weapon works in real life. You can't easily top off an enbloc clip while it is in the weapon. The magazine follower is the device that holds the bolt back and you would have to manually hold the bolt back while you try to feed rounds into the en-bloc clip sitting inside the magazein well. You can remove loaded en-bloc cilps from the rifle by means of the clip latch, and insert a fully loaded clip in it's place, saving the partially used en-bloc clip to top off at a later time. The part about using empty clips to reproduce the sound of an empty rifle is, AFAIK, accurate. My father mainly lugged the BAR around, but I believe he mentioned it at some point.

PS (a stock military M1 is a helluva lot more accurate than protrayed in the game. Of all the surplus weapons I've fired over the years, a surplus CMP M1 was probably the most accurate.)

Sadly I've never been able to get that gun.

My quest always bugs after I make the deal w/ the undercover NCR agent. I go back to Conteras and the quest just won't advance :(.

This happened to me both times I tried it. Finally I just ratted him out to Boyd after I made the deal with the agent. She gave me the gun.

Thanks for the info Gunny. I always thought it was a strip clip. And you are spot on about the accuracy. I've fired them at a range back home - still want my own. My grandfather was given a Thompson when he made Sgt. He hated it because of the inaccuracy and would "lose" it and take a M1 whenever he could. He was 82nd Airborne.

I've never been able to get This Machine by turning in Contreras. Contreras is bugged. I will not sell him any armor/helmet, because if he wears it for himself I can never buy or sell to him again.

The BAR is way more accurate than in NV.

The German K98 is also extremely accurate, dunno if you've had the pleasure of firing one but they are very nice. Germans had a definate disadvantage when it came to fire rate but the K98 is a very well made machine.

You can get one from the http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm for a pretty good price. And in one of my playthroughs, Contreras blithfully wore Motor-Runner's fiend helmet for the rest of the game

The BAR is as accurate as the Garand. It fires the same round and has the same length barrel. My dad loved/hated it. Heavy beast, but what a punch it had. Hope to shoot one some day.

I've got a Spanish Modelo 1947 K98 copy and my brother has a German K98 with laminate stock. The Spanish one is a little more crude workmanship, but she fires right. Bullet for bullet, I keep up with my bro or best him. I'm going up to visit him next month and that's all we do for a week. This year we've added a Swiss K31, Romanian AKM clone, Springfield '03 and a Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector, 2nd model in .45 colt. Can't wait to see how the coconuts hold up to the new gear. :hubbahubba:

I shoot all the time, high powered milsurp rifles are my favorite. I don't own a Swiss K31 but I got to fire one a few years back. I love the straight bolt pull and am surprised the design didn't become more popular, its a nice change. People are always talking about how beat up the stocks are and from what I've seen its all true, I've yet to see a K31 with a good looking stock even at gun shows.
