Basically, if you Punch with it, it is Unarmed. If you Swing it, it is a Melee weapon.

So Unarmed would also include other items that have shall we say mechanical assistance to the punch. Like the Ballistic Fist or the Power Fist.

Ballistic Fist=Win.

Tip:

If it mounts on or around your hand, it's unarmed.

If you hold it in your hand, it's melee.
