Wasted space may not be wasted

Well im not sure about this i haven't been able to do it but i think u can venture the space on your map that seems to be covered by mountains and invisable walls. At the very bottom left place of the map there is a NCR base up a road you'll see a big statue of a NCR ranger shaking another statues hand well at the end of the road there is a gate that that blocks another part wasteland the gate requires a key to open. I have talked to just about everyone in the base but i haven't been able to get a key. again i am not sure about being able to get the key we will need Bethsada or whoever is responsible for the "Wasted Space" to confirm it

There is a tunnel to the north blocked by rocks and a bunch of trashed cars to the west.
Both those areas don't serve any real purpose, not even for easter egg.
So I think those might be the places they will open up with DLC's. (If they do open up the map with DLC's)

i'd be very surprised if there wasn't a DLC that went back to California, so look forward to the Mojave Outpost being the start of something. something having to do with New Canaan would be neat too, so maybe the tunnel to the north will be used.

The map feels very imcomplete. Social and combat elements have refined but the map surface is lacking in places and feels contstrained, not vast. Vastness needs adding imo.

To the west near Primm there is a pile of junk blocking a road through the mountains. There are signs that say "You can go HOME courier!" "Go home!" etc. Either these are just random signs discouraging you from sticking around - or they're telling you, "Hey courier, you can go home, to your home. This way, but not right now. Maybe in a year since you have a PS3 courier.."

It requires a key because it looks better than [INACCESSIBLE].

The gate is at the very edge of the map. Obsidian just built the map better to not need to include "You cannot go that way; turn back" with blatantly obvious invisible walls marking the border of the playable map.

The other open expanses that ARE in the playable area can be explored, if you can find ways up some of the mountains. Most of it's just empty desert though with monsters scattered around, but I have also come across a couple unmarked explorable areas while just running around out here.
