Boomers Spinal Tap Reference

Post » Wed Oct 06, 2010 8:46 pm

I thought this may contain some possible spoilers, so I posted this here instead of the General Discussion forum.

When talking to Loyal for the quest "Volare!" I noticed something funny. When trying to convince Loyal to let you use the sonic emitter, a Science check read, "Oh. Does it have a dial or something? Turn it up to 11!" A fun little This is Spinal Tap reference. I didn't find this any where else, so I thought I'd post it!

I thought it seemed like a reference. Couldn't put my finger on it though. Good spot!

Without clicking the URL, I know what you're talking about. I only saw it on my 3rd playthrough since I had a high enough skill to pass the Science (?) Check those first 2 times. I see what you did thar.

This happens with pretty much every skill or stat check, if you don't meet the requirement you get vastly different text than if you do. Some of them are quite amusing, while others make you sound desperate to get answers from the NPC in question.

Having seen a great many of these, I find myself wishing they had set things up such that if you don't pass the initial check then a second option becomes available, perhaps using a different skill or stat. This is already present to an extent, however the additional options are offered simultaneously rather than sequentially which actually makes quite a difference (at least to me).
