Does the bad dialogue bother anyone else?

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 1:55 pm

I agree, all they needed was like, 10 more sound files of people from different factions saying SOMETHING ELSE. I actually did a Powder Ganger Quest, the Gecko Clearing one in the Vault, and it was refreshing to hear the different sound bites they have. Why not add this to others as well? I swear the NCR are the worst offenders for repetition.

Especially as you would spend so much time with them. It seems the enemies got all the good lines and your friends are all dumb. Well, the companions do have some interesting conversations from time to time.

Those one-liners are all right. Don't bother me. Only thing with voices that have bothered me have been Ghouls ending conversations with "Later" or "Bye" in completely different, normal voices.

Spoiler
Those, and Anders hanging from his cross near the Legion camp. When I approached he looked at me and offered up a very cheery, "Hey!" Ha ha. Then when I engaged in convo it was all in a sore throat type, "Urgh, please, help me." :) S'a funny ol' game world.

Kinda reminds me of...

Spoiler
When Lorenzo from the Bos uses EDE to tell you that he'd like to examine the robot - first few lines of dialogue sound like they're being transmitted, the last line suddenly sounds like Lorenzo is stood right there in person lol

And further to what I said earlier about npcs making comments when you look at their items or locked doors, I got to thinking rather than karma it could be based on the rep you have with that town.

I don't like the fact all the enemies are mute now, save for grunts of pain. They don't taunt me or cry out for cowardice anymore, which is a shame. And I still haven't heard one conversation between two npcs of the kind you'd find all over in FO3. Boo-urns.

But more importantly: Where the hell did you run into the Veteran Rangers? I've only seen them at the very end of the game right before the credits roll. I want that freaking armor! ><

I found one at Ranger Station Echo ^.^

And a new meme was born?

But yeah. One liners repeat A LOT. It was the same case in Fallout 3.

At least it's not as bad as Oblivion's mudcrab fetish.

The 'winter' line drives me up a wall for some reason. It's not the fact it's repeated, it's just incredibly stupid.

I just miss the conversations the NPC's would have in FO3. The first time I was in the NCR camp in Primm I was expecting the sergeant to say something to the trooper but nothing, hopefully it's just a bug that can be fixed.

Annoying, yes. stop me from trying to play? nope.

Another thing I find, annoying, and lacking, is the lack of people saying things like "Watch it" when running over clutter, or when crouched and pointing at somone so i get the "steal" activation option, or locked door, no one mentioned anything about it like they did in Fallout 3.

But meh, not game breaking. Theres plenty of other things taking care of that department.

Wait, you find the lack of those annoying comments annoying? That's odd. I hated those things - they completely made no sense most of the time (would you seriously say to someone 'yes, I see you eyeing that, and yes, it's locked for a reason' or whatever they said in F3 just for glancing at a locked door?). Bah. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

But yes, more variation in generic one-liners would have been nice. It's not really annoying or bad or anything as-is, but would have been nice if there'd been more variation. Would also have been nice if the game had been free (and bug-free) and came with a giant slice of apple pie, though.

my ONLY PROBLEM with this is that everybody says the same exact line. they have different voice actors, they pay the different voice actors, but they don't have the different voice actors say different variation of that line? like seriously how hard would it be to tell one guy to record "sure is really [censored] hot out here".

that said, it's not really BAD, it's just cheesy as hell. every game on this engine requires at least one memorable line, though, something that'll be repeated for years to come.

Been thinking the same thing! must have been a huge waste of money paying lots of people to say the same line, they should have mixed it up a bit here, I could probably think of a couple more in about 5 minutes, as I'm sure everyone else could, "what I'd do for a nuka cola right now" "why couldnt I been station on the coast"
