Reload me!

Let's make this short and sweet - my primary armaments require 5.56mm ammunition, .358 (I think) magnum and, after a recent addition, .44 magnum ammunition.

The problem is, this stuff is getting hard to find - none of my weapons have more than four loads worth of ammo anymore, and I am completely at a loss as to where to find more! I've had to resort to buying laser weapons (which I have very little skill with) to stop myself running dry the moment I enter into another serious gunfight.

Any tips on how and where to replenish my dwindling ammunition stockpile?

Gun runners is your friend -) (once you find them).

Also there is sume surplus boxes of ammo you can buy. Just remember to "drop" the box to the ground after you get it. Then pick it up again and the rounds get added to your inventory.

I've only found one Gun Runner (trading post 188 I think it was) and he hasn't spawned any more ammo yet. Any others you know of I can try?

Yes theres an actual location called Gun Runners on your map. Just south of Freeside's East Gate.

Oh... I feel rather foolish now; I've never really explored the East Gate - I always nip into that store Dixon hangs around near and that's about it! :blush2:

10mm ammo uses the same primer and powder as .357 and .44 (I think it does). 5mm also uses much of the same as 5.56mm, that covers two bases at the reloading bench. Casings are another story, you get those by shooting the guns that are chambered for those rounds, or by buying or finding them. You can get lead by breaking down scrap metal and other ammo types, usually you'll have more lead than you need with just 4 or 5 pieces of scrap metal. Merchants also have primers and powder for various calibers. The Gun Runners kiosk outside the East Gate into Freeside (by New Vegas on the map) has LOTS off different kinds of ammo and they usually have many different kinds of primers and powder. The Hoover Dam has the most ammo I've seen available for purchase, but I think it's only available later in the game and only if you work for the NCR and have a good rep. with them.

Hoover Dam had about 700 5.56 rounds when I went there, they even had 3000 BB's for the BB gun

The only ammo I've had trouble getting are the 12.7mm. I've only ever seen the ammo on the vendor once and there was only about a dozen of them and you can't actually make the 12.7mm on the reloading bench.

If you've been firing a large number of those rounds then you should have a healthy supply of casings. If you get the chance i'd recomend taking the handloader perk and breaking down other ammo types (or buying the powder and primers) to mass manufacture .357 JFP hand loads. They'll breath new life into the cowboy repeater well into the later levels.
